Default WaPo: Buccaneers sign Eric LeGrand, Rutgers DT paralyzed in 2010

Obviously will not affect team performance much, but overall a great gesture by the Tampa Bay Buccanneers.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...bNwT_blog.html

Eric LeGrand’s remarkable journey back from a horrifying on-field injury in 2010 took another step forward Wednesday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed the former Rutgers defensive tackle.
You read that right. A guy confined to a wheelchair after he was paralyzed on a kickoff return — a guy who hasn’t walked in 19 months — is realizing his dream of making an NFL team.
Initially told he would be a quadriplegic for the rest of his life after fracturing two vertebrae and injuring his spinal cord, LeGrand has exceeded every expectation during his long recovery process. Five weeks after the injury, he began breathing on his own, and later he was able to stand upright with the aid of a walker. Last October, he led the Scarlet Knights onto the field for a game — and now he is on an NFL roster.
Tampa Bay chose May 2 as LeGrand’s signing date because his college jersey number was 52.

Very nice gesture by the Buccs.

Hearing this reminded me of 2 other similar classy moves -- GW sending out 10 men after ST's death, and Pete Carroll taking the delay of game on an extra point to honor their late kicker.

    Happy to hear this.

Very classy move. With so much bad news these days it is refreshing to read this. Greg Schiano is a class act.

What kind of contract did he get?

Class act by the Bucs. Spirit Airlines could learn something here.

Since he signed with the Bucs and is on the roster, doesn't that now make him eligible for the health care/rehab/sports therapy the NFL offers?

Classy move, I hope they do some good things for him.

Baseball does this as well sometimes, because of 9,567 rounds.

NHL - well you have people picking players that don't exist (a great story, though, however).

    Hmmm...good point.

I was wondering about his bonus,
Jim Haslett is a horrible coach.
