This is revisionist history and sour grapes.

Holmgren and the Browns were outplayed by their own scheming, Shanahan didn't even have to open his bag of tricks. Shanahan laid his hand on the table, and the Browns low balled trying to be coy.

Now they're probably hearing a ton of complaints from fans, ticket holders etc., and have to do something to get people excited, as well as justify their foolishness.

I have respect for Holmgren, but seriously, the Browns FO is really out of it. Trading a bunch to get Richardson, then using their 22 to start a QB controversy. All the potential good that came from the Julio Jones trade was gone in a day. They would have been much better off just taking Julio Jones, at least then their QB would have someone to throw to.

If they don't turn it around very quickly, Richardson is going to be looking to get out of town and away from that place, and I wouldn't blame him one bit.

I'm just wondering how much the Browns can screw themselves.

First, they lowballed St. Louis until AFTER the last possible moment, only to turn around and claim that Mike and Jeff's relationship meant they weren't going to get the pick anyway.

Then, they completely and absolutely panicked that someone was going to leap frog them for Trent Richardson, only to find out that if they had stayed right where they were at number four, they STILL would've gotten Richardson, and they would've still had a fourth, fifth and seventh round pick, which they needed.

THEN, due to the first **** up and the panic move second **** up, they had no ammo to move up and get Kendall Wright. This, of course, sent them into ANOTHER panic, which lead to them drafting Brandon Weeden. And I've got no problems with Brandon Weeden, hell, I've got no issue with him being drafted in the first round, he's a better QB than Tannehill, but HOLY GOD, it's a never ending comedy of errors.

To make matters worse, they reached for Mitchell Scwartz in the second (in my opinion) whey could've drafted Rueben Randle or Stephen Hill, only added one receiver in Travis Benjamin (who is fast but has questionable hands and can't beat press coverage)...I mean...what the hell?

On top of that, NO ONE ants to go play in Cleveland, and even if they did, Holmgren and Heckert wouldn't dish out the money to have someone come play anyway.

So now their offense that couldn't get anything done last year now has most of the same pieces, a 28 year old rookie, and an offensive line that can pass protect pretty damn well but can't run the ball to save their lives.

It is a sad day to be a Browns fans...

I can understand the need to sell Weedon to their fan base as the starter. But are they going to airbrush the interviews that Holmgren did complaining about not be allowed to counter Washingtons offer to the Rams for the trade up? Clearly they wanted to trade up and were apparently prepared to pay more than we did to do so - this suggests they must have liked Griffin III quite a bit more than Weedon at that point.

Finally RGIII is almost exactly the same size as Aaron Rodgers. Can I assume that the Browns would turn Rodgers down if offered him in a trade for what we gave up for RGIII?

This point about the WRs is the biggest one. They basically have the same corp as last year, which led the NFL in drops. Little might come along a bit, but mainly they're still stuck with one of the worst WR groups in the NFL. I feel like if anyone knew what they were doing over there, they'd have done something like take Blackmon, then go right back and snag Wright by trading a 4th to move up a few spots.

The RB market this year was cold as ice, and very solid guys, who aren't quite starters but are better than the average #2, were a dime a dozen. They could have assembled a crew of Ryan Grant, Michael Bush, and Tim Hightower for less than the cost of Richardson, and then drafted good weapons.

I have to think something is seriously wrong with McCoy. I hope he's ok, but him being seriously injured is the only lens through which these moves make sense.
