If Bob Stoops' title of "Big Game Bob" has turned into a sarcastic name, is Jimbo Fisher then becoming "Little Game Jimbo?"

2.5 years is enough of a sample size on Fisher's issues with these types of games. I have a lot of faith in Jimbo getting FSU ready to play when they're going into a huge game. He gets the team prepared for big time opponents - he's owned UF and Miami the last two years, has dramatic bowl wins over USCe and Notre Dame, and took Clemson to the woodshed this season in an even worse manner than WVU did in the Orange Bowl.

And then games like NC State happen. Or UVA and Wake Forest last year. Or to an extent, NC State in 2010.

I 100% believe that Jimbo simply overlooks these teams when these games come up. Why he does that, I have no ****ing clue. But it's the same goddamn thing every time. An ultra conservative gameplan and a coaching strategy that's built around letting the special teams and defense carry the load, and hope the offense can just eat the clock.

And it's truly mind boggling that he goes with that approach against these kinds of teams.

I think part of it with EJ is that EJ is not a very good passing QB. EJ Manuel's game, much like Logan Thomas, requires him to run and run often, and use his mobility to set up his passing. In big games against UF, Clemson, Oklahoma last year, or a bowl game, Jimbo will run EJ into the ground. When it's the middle of the season and FSU is playing a Wake Forest or UVA, Jimbo would rather rely on the RBs to do the groundwork and force the issue of making EJ a pocket passer. And then the offense blows as a result. I'm not sure if he's just trying that hard to develop EJ's abilities as a more traditional drop-back passer, or, more likely, he's just afraid that EJ will get hurt on a designed run.

But again, EJ clearly doesn't grasp the full passing offense Jimbo likes to run (the variety of formations and passing plays that Christian Ponder ran versus what EJ runs is really night and day...and Ponder was the one making a lot of those audibles and calls, a freedom EJ doesn't likewise have), so I don't understand why Jimbo feels so confident in starting a QB but only playing to half of his strengths. Especially when the result is the same thing, every year. He's going into these games and knowingly handicapping the QB while hoping the offense can be successful anyway.

FSU is the Super Bowl for every other team in the ACC. FSU may not have been very good for most of the last decade, but that doesn't stop these teams from relishing any opportunity they can to celebrate a win over Florida State and doing whatever they can to make that happen. This was a problem that plagued FSU when Bobby Bowden was still walking around the sidelines, because he didn't care anymore and FSU didn't have the coaching to adequately prepare for most games anyway. This has become a problem for Fisher because he somehow doesn't get this idea, and he allows FSU to not take these opponents seriously.

Jimbo is now 24-9 overall, and more importantly, 13-6 in the ACC.

Jimbo has now lost 5 games in which FSU was a double digit favorite.

That's absurd. And Jimbo needs to prevent that trend from continuing, and do so quickly.

I didn't believe that FSU was BCS title worthy this season simply because the offensive line is not good enough and I'd be deathly afraid of giving Nick Saban 3 weeks to prepare for EJ Manuel. But barring a catastrophic injury meltdown across the team, like last year, FSU had better win the ACC this season. And starting next year, Fisher needs to stop letting these letdown games happen, for good.

(I'm also still not sure where you get this belief that Ponder was somehow a "loser" of any kind...he carried FSU on his back in 2009 with the 2nd worst defense in the ACC (better than only Duke) and he led FSU in the beginning of the turnaround out of the Bowden years...if Ponder was the starting QB for this current FSU team, he'd be a Heisman contender and FSU would realistically be a BCS title favorite)

If you think FSU is the "Super Bowl" for every other team in the ACC, you are till wearing your 1990's tinted glasses. No one in the ACC plays in awe of FSU anymore. Hasn't for years. FSU should win the ACC this year, playing a 3 loss team in the ACCCG. But stop fooling yourself. No one in the ACC lives in fear of FSU.

He has to know this. He talks about other's homerism, but will never admit his. WVU beat Clemson like a red headed stepchild, beat them by 37. FSU bet them by 12.

I bought mine back in early September. Tickets for seats in the section I'm sitting in are at minimum 265$ on Stubhub.

    Man did I luck out.

And yes, Texas Tech does scare me too.

The Harris poll, 1 of the 3 rankings used in the BCS formula - and one of the 2 human factors released their first poll on Sunday.

Can someone that's sane tell me how a 2-4 CAL and a 3-3 Virginia Tech received votes?

As long as they stay away from the fat girls (look up Mike Leach's great quote), they should be fine.

Honest question - is a housecleaning in order for Virginia Tech? This situation reminds me a lot of the last days of WVU under Nehlen.

    ---------- Post added October-9th-2012 at 08:06 AM ----------

Sorry, one more thing - I'm starting to wonder how much the problems with WVU's D is scheme related.

If you watched the game, there were 3-4 big plays that Texas pulled off because scheme wise, WVU had no one covering the player. I can't say with certainty if it was a blown assignment or if scheme wise, Texas countered with the perfect play. But it now occurs to me that this isn't the first time it's happened this year.

I know the transition from the 3-3-5 to the 3-4 has been hard, but I cannot believe that the blame goes solely to the players for this. There has to be something wrong scheme wise.

I don't think we need a housecleaning. I think we need to get younger at several positions. Frank needs to retire and assume an honorary position in the athletic department. Stinespring has to go. Billy Hite needs to retire. I think Shane Beamer needs to ascend. Bud Foster would be a GREAT replacement for Frank as HC. Shane can be in charge of recruiting, because ha has the ability to get top level talent out of FL, GA, SC, TN and of course keep the Tidewater pipeline flowing. Allowing Bud Foster to be HC, permits the team to take on the personality of Bud. Which would be a good thing.

At what point does that talent go elsewhere though? Especially if VT is going to run a 1970s offense?
