I think I do.

-Overhaul of weight training program making linemen stronger, more effective—this can happen in a short amount of time. Helps his QB and helps his sub-par RBs look like damn 6 yards a carry backs.
-Teach a QB how to actually play the position. Nothing magical, but McGloin has fundamentals down—one of the things was that he fixed the positioning of the non-throwing shoulder. Fixed his footwork. And probably just taught him how to read a defense. His throws are now accurate.
-Exploit matchups and use quick routes to ease burden on pass protection and keep down and distance manageable. We don't have stud WRs, but they're good enough to create a yard or two of space that the now accurate McGloin can exploit.
-Disguise. Pass plays look like run plays and run plays look like pass plays. Guards are pulling on play action. WRs start out looking like they are going to block on pass plays.

Just did a bunch of "little" things that are having big cumulative effects.

As I said before I don't think defenses know how to prepare for his offense yet. Next season will be a real test. So far it could be an anomaly.

The ACC suspended the head official and reprimanded the rest from the FSU-UM game for their handling of the 10 second run off rule at the end of the first half. With this and the debacle in the VT-Clemson game, I think Swofford has no choice but to address how bad the officiating is in the conference. The optimist in me hopes they they'll start calling games fairly, the realist in me realizes that nothing is gonna change for FSU until they leave the conference.

The ACC will never care about how terrible their football reffing is. They had to address the FSU-UM staff because it was a national game and they were getting killed by the national media for the inept officiating that was on display.

That won't change how things are for 3:30 types of games though.

Mickey Andrews likes to tell a story about how the defensive staff would go into the film room after a game and start reviewing the tape, so they could address which players on FSU had stood out the most from that day. Somehow though, after they were done watching the film, they'd realize that the opposing team's offensive linemen had compiled more tackles than any of FSU's defensive players.

This has been going on since FSU joined the ACC. It's never changing. FSU consistently deals with the kind of officiating that WVU had to put up with during their last season in the Big East.

Of course, in the meantime, there have been 3 offensive pass interference calls so far this year from ACC referees...all 3 came against FSU in the Miami game. What a surprise.

Doesn't excuse FSU at all from losing to double digit underdogs. That's still an issue of lazy coaching for those games. But the ACC made it clear a long time ago that it doesn't about "football schools" and their problems, especially when it comes to FSU.

In the meantime, FSU needs to only worry about themselves and fight back a little bit when it's called for - Timmy Jernigan provides a fine example from the Miami game:

You're trying to tell me that the ACC doesn't care about the best football program that it has? Or that officating is more biased against FSU than other programs?

Watching PSU this year has convinced me even further that coaching in the Big Ten has not evolved past 1972. The guy has a walk-on running an offense that came into prominence in the 80s, and defensive coordinators are utterly flummoxed. PSU is going to be in trouble once the sanctions really start to impact the roster, but they are getting over with a real strategic advantage right now.

Rodriguez actually exposed this issue while at Michigan, but his defenses were so bad that no one noticed.

You do realize you actually have to have a hold of them for it to be called holding right?

An arm across the body is not "holding" even though in your colored glasses it may appear to be so, it may even get called but most of the time it has no relevance on the play anymore than DL men hitting the O-Lineman in the face (which is also illegal) it's simply a part of the game and with all honesty it isn't holding unless you're grabbing to hold.

The "rare" double hold was hilarious.............yeaaaaaah this happens every play dude if it is a hold that really effects the play then call it otherwise give me a break and let the boys play ball.

Same with Orakpo for that matter, if he worried more about his skill set and less about someone's arm around his neck maybe he'd be a scarier pass rusher. IMO Kerrigan has already surpassed him as a better pass rusher (and has less skills)

You are allowed to grab jersey in the NFL though (I forget the specific parts).

So I suspect some of the holds were within the standards.
