So, the SEC has three chances to make the title game.Has anyone noticed that?
I'd imagine they'd be in the top five. While they haven't had too many "impressive" wins (though beating Nebraska by 25 points was pretty impressive), they are from one of the four major conferences in big time college football (SEC, Pac-12, Big 10, Big 12) and they still have a perfect record. The AP has them at number four and I can't imagine the BCS would have them any lower.
They'd be well within striking distance of one or two if they were eligible.

I think its a great move for MD. probably help recruiting being the only B1G team in the DMV. although they'll still get raped by PSU for local talent. Also from a BBall perspective it makes sense. w/ Cuse and all coming over and the rise of Godfried and NC St. MD can't compete IMO. In the B1G they will be right in the mix. and hopefully that B1G $$ will help them rebuild thier athletic department. Also be pretty awesome to have the likes of Michigan and Ohio St. playing here at.
As for FSU being underrated and the Gators overrated i think it was done just right. because if FSU wins that game it will vault them ahead of everyone other then Bama and UGA, Oregon and maybe Kst. Then they'll get an additional bump after the ACCCG. If the Gators win it won't be enough to bump them past UGA and rightfully so. and thier one loss to UGA is better then both losses to Stanford and Baylor. So if you project out to after the Championship week. and assume ND beats USC. it will be
1. ND
2. SEC champ
3. FSU/ FL winner
4. Oregon
5. Kst
to me that seems about right. IMO the team that is getting screwed in this whole thing is 1 loss Clemson. But maybe not if they lose to the Gamecocks this week. if they win, they'll likely get a BCS bid anyways.

How so? i count 2. first chance, same as everyone else is when they were undefeated. just got thier 2nd chance when ducks and k st. choked. In fact preseason no one picked an SEC team in the natty. all the experts were right when they said there would not be an undefeated SEC team this year. Everyone picked Pac 12 vs FSU preseason.
I actually had Alabama vs USC. I thought 'Bama would not lose a game(except to Michigan, but you can see where my bias lies and it was a joke). I knew FSU would be improved, but no way a no loss SEC team would not be there. I drank the USC kool-aid from last season, and now look at where they are now.
I can see why someone would want to leave a conference that has a part time member (making the majority of the decisions - just watch) in ND...but that move for Rutgers would be amazing.
I wonder if the B12 will reconsider their position on expansion and look at ULou and BYU again.

Because Pitt and Cuse are that much better?
I'm no Terps fan, but this year's team has been dealt a bad bad bad hand. What are they, on their 6th string QB?

My bad.
Looks like a done deal with MD to the B1G.

That's insane. I can't imagine the ACC without Maryland and vice versa. They were even a charter member of the conference.

I understand what the Big-10 is doing from an academic perspective. Maryland and Rutgers are both very good schools which fit the Big-10's academic profile, which is much stronger than most conferences. Makes perfect sense there. But that's about it. The Big-10 is a conference that is long on tradition and prestige, with very little recent success. They are starting to transition to more wide open offenses. You're seeing it at OSU, with Michigan recently (though I think Hoke will revert them), at Nebraska with Taylor Martinez, and at Penn State where O'Brien has basically imported the Patriots offense. But still, there's been little success recently.
What do Maryland and Rutgers add? Maryland is a basketball school first, their football is routinely ****. They apparently claim two national titles from the 50's. Rutgers claims one national title, from 1869. From a football competition and prestige perspective, they add nothing. Even their stadiums blow chunks by Big Ten standards. And why Maryland would want to give up ACC basketball for an inferior Big-10 product is beyond me. I guess football money, which the Big-10 has a load of, is a powerful lure.
MD does add a potential fertile recruiting area and extends the footprint of the B1G even farther.

FSU, Miami, Clemson, VT, Notre Dame, and maybe GT should just leave and make their own conference. Maybe find 1 or 2 other schools that are good in football and at least above average in basketball.
I get that, but honestly, before the sanctions, Penn State was already plundering Maryland almost at will. I just checked the roster, there are 14 guys from Maryland on there, and I remember many of them being high rated recruits. The best player to come out of Maryland in the last decade (before Stefon Diggs, who needs to prove it a little longer) was Derrick Williams, the consensus #1 overall recruit in the nation back in I think '05. He went Penn State. I know SEC schools and Ohio State have also gone in there when necessary. They're really going to need to lock down their own area to have a chance at competing.
