The best player to come out of Maryland in the last decade (before Stefon Diggs, who needs to prove it a little longer) was Derrick Williams, the consensus #1 overall recruit in the nation back in I think '05. He went Penn State. I know SEC schools and Ohio State have also gone in there when necessary. They're really going to need to lock down their own area to have a chance at competing.
just from wvu, you've had tavon austin, owen schmitt and steve slaton all right out umd's back yard.

I get that, I totally do. I completely understand the financial and academic reasons for making this move on both sides. I'm looking at it like this. I'm in charge of the Big-10, our football has not been competitive on a BCS stage for a decade (with occasional wins, but not enough). How does Maryland or Rutgers help that? They don't. I know this is a fantasy, but in a perfect world, keeping the academic requirements in place to join the Big 10, I would have gone after Missouri, and ultimately, tried to make a Godfather offer to Texas.

That seems to be how cable tv works. As long as ten people in an area want a station, everyone has to pay for the rights' fees. I don't completely understand that industry.

I know the Skins need D...but Tavon Austin in Round 2 to the Skins would be lethal.

But out of those 3, the only one heavily recruited by the B1G teams was Austin.

I think had someone offered a RB shot for Slaton (other than RR), he would have gone elsewhere. And Schmitt had to recruit himself.

    No bias, just bucks.

Saw this worksheet that allows you to calculate your own hypotheticals to the Colley Matrix (the most FSU-friendly of the BCS computer rankings).

    http://www.colleyrankings.com/playgod.html

With wins against Florida and Ga. Tech, FSU would move up to 8th from 16th. Florida, with the loss, would only move down 1 spot, from 2nd to 3rd.

    Fun little toy though.

its obviously a money grab. the big 10 network's footprint now goes from DC to NY. 2 huge markets. also w/ 14 now being the desired conference size what other schools should they have considered that could bring in those type of markets. it will be interesting to see what the Big 12 does now.

I know that. But having more exposure of other B1G teams in MD and the surrounding area might just be the in that the Michigan's of the world (and other B1G teams) needed to put them over the top.

    Why would they?

UMD football can't hold a candle to WVU, PSU, VT etc.

UMD has been totally irrelevant in football.

Exactly. That's why I don't think jumping to the B1G will do much for them recruiting wise. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it.

No surprise, Rutgers accepted as well (to be announced officially tomorrow).
