I can't imagine it would hurt too bad.

A lot of recruits apparently are upset about this move but B1G Football > ACC Football. So much more tradition in the B1G, I'd rather play there if i were a recruit.

But high school kids are stupid and impossible to predict so who knows.

I don't think it will hurt them recruiting wise, but will it be enough to make a difference? I don't know. I still think HS kids will always pick the big name schools over MD though. Maybe some of those fringe ones might stay, but who knows.

    No idea.

Don't think UMD will compete in the B1G anytime soon, if at all.

I know this is a fantasy, but in a perfect world, keeping the academic requirements in place to join the Big 10, I would have gone after Missouri, and ultimately, tried to make a Godfather offer to Texas.
The Big Ten also places high priority on its academics and that will never change. What will happen for the Big Ten is a much larger market for its network and an influx of cash to each school which will build better facilities overall which will help recruiting. Yeah, the Big Ten won't get the dunces that qualify academically for Alabama and LSU, but it will help the Big Ten programs with one more bargaining chip for student athletes who may be undecided between the academics of the Big Ten and football glory of the SEC.

So what are the odds that FSU makes the jump soon?

I see them as wanting out because:

    1) Alongside MD, they were the only other team to vote against the $50mil buyout.

    2) MD is allegedly having it reduced to $20mil.

I'm sure that there are other reason (just like there are reasons to stay).

I think this definately opens the flood gates. If FSU leaves, the ACC will be hurting. MD doesn't hurt them at all, but if FSU and maybe Clemson leave, then things get serious.

Read yesterday that Boise St and SD state are thinking of not going to the Big East. Maybe what is left of the ACC, BE and CUSA, they can pool their teams together for a super conference.

I think if the ACC can convince Louisville to join they'll be fine. Trading UMD for Louisville wouldn't be a bad move for the ACC.

Honestly it would be a positive move for the ACC.

Better football and basketball and a school that isn't in debt.

Academics aren't comparable but at the end of the day it's about money.

Isn't ULOU and WVU ranked about the same, academically?

That would be hilarious though if the ACC did add them. It would show the hypocrisy of the conference.

That said, ULou was on the alleged shortlist of the B12 if it were to expand. Adding ULou and FSU would make a lot of sense for that conference.

Then NC State and VT could go to the SEC.

I think this is a bad sign for the ACC. ACC screwed up by letting ND get what they want & the orange bowl tie in...as a non member in football. Shame on ACC.

Maryland made a smart move. B1G will help them with their debt problems unlike the ACC. Having bigger name schools at home will help by getting people in the stands with football. It's a win/win situation for Maryland & eventually this will strengthen their football program.

As a VT fan, hope we leave because we don't fit in the ACC. ACC is too cheese/wine for Virginia Tech. ACC is a basketball conference and tech isn't. ACC didn't get competitive enough by not going after football schools.

    Let's go Hokies!

I just saw a report saying that BC and UVa could also be going to the Big 10. That could start an epic exodus from the conference. Look out below.

FSU, Clemson, Ga Tech, Va Tech and possibly Miami & UNC headed for the door?

If BC and UVA go to the B10 with MD and Rutgers, I could see FSU, Clemson, VaTech and Miami joining the Big 12, UNC and GaTech going to the SEC. That would leave 2 spots open with the Big 12 and NC State, Duke, Wake, Pitt and Syracuse on the outside looking in. Or Pitt could turn and go with the Big 12 to reunite with WVA.

You know, it would serve the Tobacco Road schools right if they got left behind in a dying conference.

I could see that if you switch Va Tech with Ga Tech. Georgia will oppose GT to the SEC, as Florida would FSU and S. Carolina would Clemson.

UNC, to me, seems to belong much more in the Big 10 than in the SEC.

Word is that Cal coach Jeff Tedford is not returning to Cal next year. 11years and done.

I would imagine he'll end up on his feet coaching another BCS team..probably next year.
