I dont see how Bielema has any more chance to win a Nat'l Championship at Arkansas than he did in Wisconsin. Strange move.
And the road for Meyer to run the Big10 and get another title just got a little easier.

Outside of a handful of programs, it sure looks like the SEC can hire whomever they want from other schools. The perception is out there that a middle of the pack SEC job is > than a top B1G job.

not so much that the big12 needs them, but i would love for this to happen just to hasten the inevitable big-east-like-decline of the acc.

The Mayans Were Wrong, Go Nuts
The Big12 needs FSU just as much as FSU needs to get out of the ACC. The Big12 desperately needs to add a few more teams if they want to be around when the super conferences start forming. A 10 team league won't cut it. And funny how quickly people forget that Texas and Oklahoma were this close to bolting for the Pac12 last year. The Pac12 commissioner said there are no plans for expansion at this point but in his next breath said "never say never". The Big12 isn't exactly on shaky ground, but with the way the landscape is changing by the week, they're going to need to do something sooner rather then later to keep up with the other 3 major conferences (the ACC is officially downgraded in my mind, at least for now). So yes the Big12 certainly could use a team like FSU at this point.
From an FSU standpoint, about the only thing that jumps off the page as a plus for them joining is money and television exposure. I dont agree with it geographically. I don't see it creating a huge boon in recruiting, other then the fact that it may open them up to guys in Texas, but FSU already gets guys from there. (Mario Edwards Jr, Christian Ponder to name a few). Me personally, I prefer SEC or bust. It just makes more sense geographically, recruiting wise, and competitively. I dont think it will happen because of 1.)UF and 2.)This SEC strategy where they only add teams in states that don't already have an SEC team in it, which ironically makes Virginia and North Carolina teams attractive to them.

If u think the big12 is shaky, you didn't know or haven't thought through what it means that schools have relinquished broadcast rights to the big12. So if a school wants to leave, I think it'd have a hard time finding a conference willing to take them because they bring no value as far as tv contracts go.
As far as "keeping up with other conferences" I don't think umd and Rutgers makes the big10 any better than it was....which, money aside, isn't much. The big12 is in great shape.
I would love fsu to big12, I think it'd be a great move for both parties.

And then there's that. First time I've read or heard about that.-- Big 12 expansion rests, indirectly, on a perceived gentleman's agreement with the SEC. The league supposedly would not expand to states where there currently are teams. That seemingly takes Florida State, Clemson and Georgia Tech out of the mix.
Purchased Rose Bowl tickets yesterday. So pumped.

oh, don't get me wrong. i know these things can be fought out / bought out whatever. but it's not very likely with the big12...at least for the next decade or so (not sure exactly how long they've granted their media rights to the big12, it was initially 6 years but i am pretty sure they upped it)
longhorn network is for 2nd and 3rd tier stuff....i.e. non conference games, olympic sports, etc. it does not affect first tier media rights, which is what the conferences sell to the networks..
eidt: i may be wrong about the longhorn network...don't think so, but maybe.

that makes no sense, since the sec took two big12 teams last year. was this agreement made after the TAM and mizzou defections?
edit: i misread it, though it is very poorly worded. this gentlemans agreement is not between the sec and the big12, it is a gentlemans agreement between the sec schools, and that has been around for a long time....though i would not be schocked if they went against it...does it really hurt florida to have fsu in their conference?

The Mayans Were Wrong, Go Nuts
on the espn big12 blog now:
best quote:Talk about Florida State and the Big 12 has mostly been an unsubstantiated rumor for months, and several sources fueled local media reports that the league hadn't even considered the Seminoles as a possible future member.
However, in wake of the ACC's new media deal with ABC/ESPN which is expected to fetch less than the Big 12's new pending deal, Florida State is making itself very hard for the Big 12 to ignore.
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees I can say that unanimously we would be in favor of seeing what the Big 12 might have to offer. We have to do what is in Florida State's best interest," Florida State Board of Trustees chairman Andy Haggard told Warchant.com.
As for the academic side of the debate, Haggard says leaving the ACC, a conference much stronger academically than the Big 12, wouldn't be a big factor.
"No FSU graduate puts on his résumé or interviews for a job saying they are in the same conference as Duke and Virginia," he said. "Conference affiliation really has no impact on academics."

The Best And Worst In College Bowl Gift Baskets
One of the oddities of college football bowl season is that each bowl gives its participants a lavish gift basket as a celebration to end the season. According to NCAA rules, each bowl is allowed to award up to $550 worth of gifts to 125 participants per school (but if you give a player a free tattoo in the offseason then DEATH TO YOU!).
Not all gift baskets are the same, though, and some bowls give out much better swag then others. We've rounded up the winners and losers.
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl - East Carolina vs. Louisiana-Lafayette.
Beats by Dre! This is a practical gift that nearly every football player will use.
Players in the New Orleans Bowl will also receive a Fossil watch and an Oakley backpack.
...
Hyundai Sun Bowl - USC vs. Georgia Tech
A Helen of Troy hair dryer. At the end of a year in which Matt Barkley was projected to win the Heisman Trophy and a national championship, he will instead be given a Helen of Troy hair dryer.
Players in the Hyundai Sun Bowl will also receive some other stuff that doesn't make up for a Helen of Troy hair dryer.

I'm pretty sure all the football players at East Carolina already have those headphones. Every time I pass by one of them, they're wearing those headphones.
My home town was carved out of swampland.

i get that your team success plays a huge part in these awards and notre dame is a media darling, but T'eo as best player in the country is a joke. Best D player? thats even comical. for my money the best D player in the country is Jadaveon Clowney for USCe. and for the record as a Bama fan i recognize that ingram didn't deserve the heisman. in fact i was rooting against him. I always thought it was kind of cool that Alabama never had a Heisman despite thier storied past. to me it was kind of an insult to great Bama players of the past, cuz Ingram wouldn't be in my top 5 maybe 10 players all time.
