Why are teams still trying to go to the Big East? No way they can keep their AQ status. Especially with the new playoff system coming into play.

Mark Stoops is a good coach, and he can succeed at Kentucky if the administration allows him. Give football the money they need, and Kentucky should be fine.

Cincinatti wants a piece of the ACC action now.

Another great fit for the academic profile of the acc

You think the difference between #139 and #165 is a lot on a ranking that is mostly bunk to begin with?

But again, just in the division alone, NC State should not have winning records over FSU and Clemson for any lengthy period of time, unless FSU and Clemson are screwing things up for themselves somehow. So at best, they're fighting for third place in the Atlantic Division. On the Coastal side, NC State isn't a better program than VT or UNC (and Miami would be in that list if they weren't shooting themselves in the foot with their administrative miscues).
Out of the entire ACC, you can flat out say that NC State is a better program than Boston College and Duke. Wake, Maryland, and UVA are toss-ups, as like NC State, those programs all rely on the perfect pieces coming together to have a great year.
NC State is in a great location for football, their fans are respectable, they have great facilities, and they have an extremely underrated home field advantage (partly thanks to them bizarrely letting fans leave their stadium at halftime to get wasted at that fair across the street and come back for the 3rd quarter).
But it's just not an easy place to win, even to maintain a .500 record, due to how crowded the landscape is right around them. Clemson, USCe, and UNC will dominate the recruits locally, and that's not counting FSU and various SEC schools grabbing recruits out of the Carolinas as well. Consistent winning starts with great recruiting, and NC State isn't capable of locking down their own back yard in any way.
NC State ended up going 4-4 in the ACC this year, 4-4 in 2011, and 5-3 in 2010. I think that's a decent run, all things considered.
Stoops was amazing at player development, especially with the secondary, and he was a pretty good recruiter.
His game planning was only alright. Part of that is out of necessity however, especially this year.
Greg Hudson has honestly turned out to be kind of a mediocre LB coach, and while Christian Jones is an absolute stud (he was also a 5* recruit, so Hudson was just responsible for not messing him up), the rest of the LBs under his tenure have had their struggles developing. And with that, you've seen FSU run a lot more 4-2-5 schemes, a lot more than Jimbo Fisher and Stoops would probably prefer to have run.
I'm not super upset about Stoops leaving, since FSU is one of the best DC jobs in the country and FSU won't be lacking in having excellent candidates for the position. My biggest immediate concern is Stoops being distracted this week while preparing for GT. That game could easily turn into a shoot out. Especially with Tank Carradine tearing his ACL against UF.
If Stoops pulls a Mark Richt this week I'll be super pissed.
I'll also be bummed, but not entirely surprised, if he takes DE coach DJ Eliot. That guy's maybe the best coach on the entire defensive staff and has done an unbelievable job with Brandon Jenkins, Tank Carradine, and especially Bjoern Werner.

1.) I'm not really all that happy about my Alma Mater joining the Big East. Hopefully, we won't be there long and we'll go to greener pastures. But, if it means more money and TV time to East Carolina, then I guess it'll have to do.
2.) I'll admit, I'm rooting for Notre Dame. As cheesy as it sounds, I've always wanted to see them win a National Championship. Every generation has their great Notre Dame championship. Maybe it's time for ours.

The problem with your analysis is that we beat FSU 2 out of the last 3 years, we beat Clemson last year and were in it right to the end at their place this year. It's not that we should be better than those two team every year, but the year you beat FSU and or Clemson, you need to take advantage of that and get to the ACC title game. The one chance to get to the ACC title game we had was 2010 but we choked it away against a not so good Maryland team that year. If we had won, we would have gone. That was the problem with TOB. Not taking advantage of the opportunity which is what a program like ours has to do to win an ACC title. As you said, we won't consistently beat those teams.
Arkansas has offered Les Miles a 5 year 27.5 million dollar deal, which would make him the highest paid coach. Will it be enough to pull him away?
