Redskins Baltimore Area Skins Fans: How do you watch the game?

For Those of us out in Baltimore County, Carroll County, Baltimore City and beyond watching the Redskins play can be a bit of an adventure. With the regular season nearly upon us, I thought this would be a good place to share some of the creative measures I’ve come up with, and explore some of the other options out there.

Direct TV and Sunday Ticket is certainly nice if you don’t mind the dish on your roof, and some of the costs and hassles associated with it. I remember a thread that discussed negotiating free Sunday Ticket with a Direct TV subscription, though I couldn't find it in search. If anyone has a link to it, let me know and I'll add it here.

Slingbox is something I’ve found to be an invaluable tool if you happen to know someone in the DC market willing to add a cable box and sacrifice a little bandwidth on your behalf.

For people like me who live on the fringe of the Washington market broadcasts, this site should give you a good idea of what you might be able to pick up over the air that your cable provider may not. WTTG-5(Fox) and WUSA-9(CBS) are what you’re looking for. If anyone has had success with a particular antenna, I’d love to hear what you’re working with.

With some limited success, I've also watched some games streaming online. Typical problems encountered are delayed feeds, buffering issues, compatibility issues, and the occasional spyware. That said, in a pinch, it's not the worst option out there. This thread should pretty much set you straight.

I've been to a couple bars here and there that will have the game on, but I have yet to run into a redskins-centric sports bar around Bmore, so if anyone knows of any, feel free to hop in!

If there's anything I missed, or anything you'd like to add, let me know and I'll toss it up here.

It's funny, I'm a few miles north with Fios, and it's straight up Bmore market, I guess it swaps up across the county line.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but if you don't want to hassle with a dish, why not just go to a sports bar? Considering its only once a week, would it be a big deal to drive a little further in if you would rather watch with Skins fans?

A season spent going to a sports bar to watch games will be more expensive then the direct TV package.

I live in NJ (southern) so I've got no hope of watching the games (b/c if it's not the Eagles, it's the Giants). What I do is leech off of my friend's Sunday Ticket with their online/device-based option. If you know of someone with DirecTV Sunday Ticket, offer to pay for the upgrade to Sunday Ticket Max ($100 for 2012 season). Then I watch it on my TV (I have a PC hooked up to it, but it's fairly simple to use an HDMI connection from your laptop) or my iPad. I could do the free streaming from Europe, but I find all sorts of lag/delay issues plus the spyware. I'd rather pay the $100 to jump around to all of the games during halftime or the afternoon.

Not the cheapest option, but it's less than what you'd spend at a sports bar. Hope it helps some folks.

When we lived in 21043 it was great getting the Skins games every Sunday, now that we live in Baltimore County I've been struggling with the online feeds. They are often blurry and behind, if you can get them to run at all.

I am thinking about going by radio shack this year and grabbing one of their amplified indoor HD antennas to see if I can pick up fox 5. I'd grab an exterior antenna and definitely get it, but the wife would definitely kill me.

There's a Skins bar in Downtown Baltimore called the Sly Fox. Went there for a game last year and its a pretty cool spot...if you don't mind driving into the city. Usually, I just go to one of the local sports bars near my place. Greene Turtle, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc.
