Lions
2008: 0-16; arguably worst team in NFL history.
Enter new GM/Coach/QB
2009: 2-14
2010: 6-10
2011: 10-6 wildcard
All situations are different and I am not calling for a 10-6 or bust season by any means, but please don't tell me the Lions entering 2009 were somehow more "stable" or a better situation than the Redskins.
The NFL has changed; rebuilds don't take as long-- or at least they shouldn't.
If it takes Shanny five years to get us competitive, I think that is a problem.
The problem with this philosophy.... it assumes we had some sort of a team to start with..... 3 years is not long at all to turn over an entire roster (minus what, like 6 players)? They didn't try and fix a car, they are working on building a next generation Ferrari. I don't care what the record is at the end of the season, no one can say that there hasn't been SIGNIFICANT progress made on this team. The second piece to this is the cap casualities. As far as I'm concerned, that is going to make a huge difference on our season, and I don't see that as Shanahallen's fault.

I think regardless of where RGIII came in the rebuild, it still takes 2 years for the team to gell.
If Shanny doesn't stay through 5 years, Ima be pissed.

as far as I'm concerned, drafting RG3 resets the clock. RG3 just needs to show a lot of promise as a quarterback and Shanahan will be here to coach him. besides, this isn't New York.how many times have the NY media wanted to fire Tom Coughlin? guy wins the Super Bowl, and a few years later they still wanted to sack him. Redskins need to show patience now. they finally have a franchise quarterback and a front office that knows how to draft well. contending Super Bowl teams aren't built overnight

If the RG3 trade doesn't occur, then I would've have been on the edge, but not now and Shanahan can fulfill his entire contract. He can go 6-10 and it will be thought of as a positive with a rookie QB.
Brace yourself, Kleese. We are going 6-10 or worse. Shanahan and Allen are digging Daniel Snyder out of a very, very deep hole. The cap penalty isn't helping matters.
1st of all, if we go 3-13?
I'm going to start having Heath Shuler nightmares.
Because that's the last & only time the Redskins finished 3-13 (or worse) since the 16 game schedule was introduced in 1978.
Which probably explains why it's been so hard to land a damn QB.
We're never bad enough, to pick high and land the top QB prospects.
We would have missed again this year going 5-11 & picking #6, had we not traded the farm for one.
Lets be patient with this one, Redskins fans.
And lets have patience with our Head Coach Mike Shanahan as well.
We at least owe him the opportunity, to get us out of the abyss of the NFL with his resume.
I think he deserves to finish out his 5 year contract, which is now going into year 3/5.
...and replace him with...who?
I think Shanahan's just about the best call Snyder could've made, and remains so.
(The only problem I have is I seem to value hi-caliber OL play more than Shanahan does, but then again I never won any superbowls.)
Excuse my language, but here's my response to the thread:
Bull-****ing-****.
I can see some of your argument kleese, but i still think shanny has at least a couple more seasons to change our course of play on the field. I think we finally have a competent front office. We are not making the same mistakes of the cerrato era....i was actually ok with the mcnabb deal, but not the results. We never lost enough to get that first pick, like the lions or the colts, but when the opportunity arose to trade and get a potential stud qb, we made the move. Of course it came with a price.....which may have been offset with fa moves had not the NFL decided that we had gained a competitive advantage by dumping a couple of salaries into an uncapped season.
So....we have been patient since our last sb. We suffered through norv, the ole ball coach, rumors of billick and Fassel, zorn, cerrato......i for one can be patient as long as i feel we are making progress towards being truely competitive, year in and year out, for a division championship, playoffs, and a sb berth. My hopes for this season are really to see the team progress and get better....rgiii to stay healthy and show improvement ....to see some offensive playmakers emerge from all the possible candidates.....and to see our defense take a step forward over last season with rak and kerrigan becoming a fierce olb tandem.
I will say, however, that the more the roster is filled with new players...i.e. ones that this regime has brought in....the more the burden falls on the regime for production. They brought in garcon and morgan to be playmakers...so they need to be just that. Some of our rookie linemen will need to step up. Certainly our secondary needs to become a cohesive unit, and one of our rb's needs to assert himself in the zbs that we use.
So....while imay not be the conductor on the shanahan bandwagon, i am a willing passenger who isn't yet looking for the exit.
