Agreed and the main problem is week after week were getting worse not better. At the beginning of the season losses were not as bad because you saw the flashes on offense and you knew well the defense just stinks we can fix it in the offseason. Now I dont know the whole team is sputtering and to be quite honest were not that much better right now then the KC chiefs and thats a scary thought. I know the St. Louis Rams right now are incredibly happy most likely they will have a top 5 pick. The worst part about it is that our division stinks and if we had just an okay D and not the worst D in the league we would be playing meaningful games in Nov. and Dec.

No need to dump on Polian to defend Shanny.
Polian was a great executive and Shanny is a great coach. Polian was 6 time executive of the year. He certainly knows football and he was a very creative, outside the box thinker with a knack for finding value where nobody else saw it--a necessity because his teams never had cap room or a decent budget for FAs and never had early draft picks.
Polian is actually of a feather with Shanny IMO. If you listen to him talk about our team, Polian gets what we're trying to do when not many of the talking heads do. He sees the game the same way as Shanny and he values our players about as accurately as anyone else in the media seems to.

"John Wall will never be as good as Kyrie Irving was in his first week in the NBA" - David Falk, published February 14, 2013.
I'm TOTALLY in the "Fire Shanahan" camp. If Philly continue to lose, what about Andy Reid? I also heard that Sean Payton might not return to N.O? I'd rather have either of those guys than the overrated Mike Shanahan.
I do concede that Polian never had the most in resources to work with, so maybe he does get a curve. However, he's turned in some ugly drafts in a row, and his team-building strategy was always too focused around Peyton Manning's ability to put up points. Granted, you work with what you got, I suppose, but I really feel that a more balanced approach would have yielded more Super Bowl wins.
It got me thinking - has any front office gotten consistent value picking in the 20s consistently?
I think we can agree though that the "Shanahan inherited his talent for his SB wins" meme is far past getting old, and it's silly to bring up Polian in comparison when Polian inherited a lot of his early mainstays too.
Option #1 -
- Sean Payton + Real GM
Option #2 -
- Stick with the Shanny's
- Strip Shanny of GM duties
- Replace Haslett with anyone (probably stick with the 3-4 to minimize personnel issues)
6-10??? HaHaHa. This team will be lucky to finish 4-12!!
Being a Redskins fan prepares you for life.
Vinny Cerrato believes he gave Jim Zorn a roster that can make the playoffs. A playoff kicker doesn't miss that kick. A playoff safety doesn't bite multiple times by a double move in the same game.Originally Posted by suze109

Bumping this thread because I've been thinking about it a lot during this winning streak. I agreed with the OP when he initially posted this. By Year 3, it was time for progress in the W/L column, and I have to give credit to Shanny for delivering there - at worst, this team is going to finish at 9-7 this year, and will barely miss the playoffs. At best, they're going to win the division, host a playoff game, and maybe more. Thank you, Coach Shanahan and the rest of the Washington Redskins for not quitting on yourselves, your fans, and your season. Wow.
Given that the Redskins have had the remarkable turnaround, they should be reasonably picked to be one of the teams "on the rise" next year and comfortably predicted for a playoff spot, if not more (and I know the 2012 season isn't even over yet). The Lions were thought of in a similar vein coming into this season.......what happened to them, and how can the Redskins best avoid a setback?
I'm not sure what happened to the Lions honestly. Calvin is having a monster season and Stafford is 2nd in the league in passing. Their defense hasn't been as good, but it's hard to say what happened for them to be a 10-6 team last year to a 5-10 team this year.
For us to avoid a set back, we'll have to add some depth to the secondary and DL. We definitely seem to be on the right track now.
As to the raging debate over the OP, thankfully, that will be something left unanswered that we'll never know.
And man is that the best possible scenario for all our sanity.
Hail.
