Yeah, I second that. I really got into it with Brave here in this thread and elsewhere, as well as quite a few others (lol), but it seems he's one of the only ones willing to reflect on it sincerely.

And not saying I was right or anything, don't take it like that. I really don't care how I'm viewed here with the labels. But this place at 3-6 really made me understand how awful it's become, unfortunately.

There was never any logical reason for this process to take five years. I predicted the Redskins to go 8-8 and I also felt that was a reasonable expectation. A double digit loss season would have been hard for me to rationalize.

Shanny and company have exceeded my expectations and turned this into a very positive season at worst and a great one at best. I'm thrilled with where we are and obviously any talk of "chopping blocks" is irrelevant.

well, maybe im a homer, but i definitely knew the team was better than what they showed against pitt and carolina. i had a feeling that we would beat the eagles, cause they had been playing poorly up to that point, and we had a bye week. after that strong showing, i thought ya know, maybe after 2 or 3 days of hard practicing, we could beat dallas. i mean we did come very close to sweeping them last season, even came close to splitting with them (with rex as QB). after we beat dallas, i started thinking for sure that if a few things go our way and some teams start to lose, we could make a run. so, yeah i imagined a 7 game winning streak to end the season, and i wasnt lying about it then, and i'm not lying about it now. the team proved this season that they could beat anybody.

I think the OP overestimates where this roster is.

We have a lot of young, budding talent at a lot of position areas, but to say that this is the type of roster that was a franchise QB away from being a perennial contender is completely wrong. As we saw in the Bears game, this is a team that still needs seasoning. This will only come with more talent added in the next couple of drafts/free agency periods and game experience. Pulling the plug on Shanahan now would undo a ton of the work, and completely scrub away any ounce of stability we have developed. Stability, I remind you, being something this franchise has not had in YEARS.

You know who that last coach we had who was here longer than four seasons? Norv Turner.

While I stand by my original stance, this team has BLOWN my expectations way out of the water.

I do think, though, that the coaching job this staff has done cannot be stated enough.
