Skov has played well this year so I still assume him to go in the top 2 rounds

They need a CB, S, and a disruptive 3-4 D-lineman. Right now we are getting NO push into the pocket. None at all.

    Talent is talent though.
Before the Iggles Cullen Jenkins played 5-tech DE in a 2-gap 34 in Green Bay and was a disruptive player.
Watt would likely have different stats here then in Houston, but he would still be our best and most disruptive DL.

I think Watt would be wasted in Haslett's defense, personally. At any rate we got a hell of a player in Kerrigan.

It's weird because at the time, the "trade-down-and-pick-up-more-draft-picks" move was looked at like a brilliant move by this front office. And in fact, when I did the whole mock draft thing, the first thing everyone did was trade down and try to acquire more draft picks. Now that was move a mistake and we're pining over what could've been.

    Interesting.

Watching Polumbus yesterday reminded me how badly we need a true RT. I know, i know, the secondary, yadda yadda, but come on, invest in it now, because we need to. FA or draft, we need to upgrade. I sincerely hope Aboushi lasts to wherever we are in the 2nd, and we can lock him down. Williams and Aboushi would take our line from just below average to well above average. Our interior is not great, but they are serviceable, and Hurt and LeRibeus might still turn into starters, but we don't really have anything after our starters at tackle, and we need to fix that. I'm not putting much stock in Compton, as much as I'd like to. The way Black played, I'd have to think Compton would have been called up by now if he was something solid. Sure, he could develop, but if Compton is worse than Black, and Black is worse than Polumbus, can we truly expect Compton to leapfrog Polumbus by opening day 2013?

We invested too much in the guy under center to ignore it any longer. I know the injury wasn't on Polumbus, but how long until one is on him? That, and we have an awesome RB in Morris. Add an RT to that equation, and suddenly he's a 100 yard per game guy every game.

How are we going to get our RT?
I personally feel our RT is sitting on the practice squad now and will become the starter next year

With Compton the story on him all throughout college was this, he was a very talented OT, who didn't have the competition of the top OT's. He's not the strongest guy, and he doesn't always generate the best push, but most of that is derived from his strength. The thought with Compton was you stash him on the PS for a year or have him as a 3rd string type, and then he could become the starter the year after.

I mean, we always do that, though 2011 isn't the year to do that for. 2005 when we missed Aaron Rodgers for Carlos Rogers? Yeah. 2008, when DeSean Jackson and Jordy Nelson slipped past us for Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly? Yeah. Or that same year when instead we could have just taken Sam Baker (who Atlanta traded for).

If every other draft was perfect, I guess we could pine over 2011 and what could have been with Watt, but like you said, we got a hell of a player in Kerrigan, and got a couple other guys too.

You should hear what Falcons fans say about Baker...... they can't stand him and are happy he'll probably be gone

I agree thtat we should upgrade RT but you can't always go by depth chart to reflect a correct order of merit.
I think Compton is certainly better then Jordan Blsck right now based on pre-season and recent history.

That, and we have an awesome RB in Morris. Add an RT to that equation, and suddenly he's a 100 yard per game guy every game.
He's already a 100 ypg back provided he gets enough touches.

For what it's worth I think Polumbus has been pretty good in the run game and much less so versus against the pass.

I would agree on that as well. Has been not an issue in the run game, but has been pretty poor in the pass game

Depends on who you asked at the time. When Watt and Quinn were still on the board at 10, I didn't want us to trade down. Most thought Quinn was a more natural 3-4 olb than Kerrigan, and Watt was just a beast of a 3-4 de prospect.

But that was also with only 1 year of Haslett and him showing more 1 gap looks than he has since then. Now we run that primary 2 gap Pittsburgh style Defense. Watt was seen as a good pick at the time because of that 1 gap look, Quinn still seemed to be that guy, until STL took him. Honestly I'm not gonna gripe about it because Kerrigan is a stud

For the most part people in this thread express themselves pretty clearly.
I don't recall anyone calling Kerrigan over Watt as a mistake or a gripe.

And even in a 2-gap 34 a disruptive DL is still a disurptive DL see: Cullen Jenkins w/ Packers
Watt would be our most disruptive DL regardless of scheme the dude is a talent.
