wonder what they will save by cutting Brown, release/restructure Hall, release/restructure Moss, and a few others.
This it, check the last paragraph.

Mosley redirects his weight so well and has such good balance/explosiveness. No need to gather himself.

He looks like a slightly rich man's Navorro Bowman. Future star NFL LB.

But a coaching musical chairs with guys who don't know the 3-4 or aren't used to working with a much better Front 7 than Secondary wouldn't benefit us much.

I think Shanahan is loyal (call it stubborn) to a fault with the guys he picks for his defensive staff. If there is a guy out there that could do it, it'd have to be a former HC type with a fantastic defensive pedigree like when he replaced Slowik (who, FWIW, found himself on our staff) with Mike Nolan fresh off his HC stint with San Francisco. If someone like Crennel or Ryan gets fired, I could see us kicking the tires on them, but otherwise I think we're stuck with Haslett.

There are a few names I'd love to see us think about as young position coaches go. I really like Vance Joseph from Houston, who is a very good DBs coach and obviously learned under Phillips. Jim Tomsula from San Francisco is also intriguing because he has some head coaching experience in NFLE and as an interim coach. I think it'd be tough to get Shanahan to go with either guy though. I'm also a big Spanos fan, if he decided to make the jump back up to the NFL. I thought he should have been our DC all along.

In the end I just think that the combination of not having much out there in terms of experienced coaches and Shanahan's ready-made excuses when it comes to Haslett means that Jim is going to be our DC for another miserable season. I really hope I'm wrong and you're right, though.

I just think there's way too many glaring holes in our secondary to take a chance on Margus Hunt in the second round. We need a guy who can come in and compete for a starting defensive spot day one with that pick, and Hunt doesn't fit the bill.

If we're going to address the defensive line, I'd like to see us go after a two-down true nose tackle who can kick Cofield out to DE if need be and give us a lot of flexibility with Carriker, Bowen, and Cofield to keep them fresh for obvious pass rush situations. Kwame Geathers from Georgia is a guy I like a lot. Thoughts?

Heard that. I like keeping up with these threads, but have been struggling due to my workload this semester. Currently pulling an all nighter for accounting midterm later today.
RIP Sean Taylor. A true legend.

My thought is that the 2 down nose is going the way of the dinosaur. Teams throw on first and second down more than they run now. Teams will throw the ball 50+ times a game and run it less than 20. If a defensive lineman wants to see the field often, he needs to have value against the pass and he needs to be able to play multiple techniques.

You see it in the proliferation of 2 man lines in the 3-4. Some would almost be better called a 2-5-4 or a 2-4-5. There is no 0 or 1 technique in those alignments.

It's one of the reasons I think John Jenkins is wildly overrated when he's talked about as a first rounder. A smart team doesn't take a player whose only going to play 20 to 25 snaps a game in the first round.

So unless Geathers has value against the pass, I don't see any point in taking him. We're find with Cofield/Jenkins/Baker/Neild in the mix at the nose on running plays. We've been a really good run defense this year.

But if you're wonder who the best interior style tackles are, I think the list goes

    1.) Lotuleilei
    2.) Hankins
    3.) Short

Short would be a good pick because he might make it to us in the second round, he fits the scheme well, he can play each spot on the DL, and he has value against the pass.

I wish we could snag Manti Teo that MLB from Notre Dame. He'd be a perfect fit as London's replacement. Man that kid is good.

I'm starting to hear that David Amerson might slip into the 2nd round. That would be a no brainer if he's available when we pick....

I like the way you think. I doubt Short makes it to us in the 2nd round, but you never know.

He's fantastic. He would definitely be a perfect fit in our defense, really the ideal player you could draw up.

I like him and CJ Mosley as two of the best players in this class. Both would be outstanding in our D. But I think both go in the first round unless they've got some sort of health issue we don't know about.

I'm hoping Ezekiel Ansah drops to us in the 2nd. Our run defense is one of the tops in the league. We need pass rushers.

The most talented is Ezekiel Ansah. But he is raw but still is a force.

We shouldn't be looking at LB's. DBs are our #1 priority, followed by OL, then maybe a legit #1 receiver. We have solid depth at LB. Rak, Kerrigan, Fletch, Riley, Jackson, Lorenzo, Robinson, the latter two can play either inside or out. I'd be extremely disappointed if we took another LB with our first 2 picks.
