Watching the Steelers made me jealous. The difference between them--an established team with veteran talent that's very fundamentally strong and capable of demoralizing bad teams--and us was palpable.

That team is well coached, disciplined, and full of good players.

The defense is impressive. The line is pretty great with Hampton, Heyward, and Chewbacca. The linebackers are the soul of the team as always. And the secondary is disciplined. They even had that silly trick play with RGIII running a route perfectly covered.

I would try and sign Ryan Mundy, see if some of that Steeler discipline rubs off on the others. He's probably hungry and looking for his shot at a major role.

I can't wait until the day comes when we've cultivated our own talent like that. First we need speed though. Pittsburgh is big and aggressive and physical, but they're still fast. Their receivers are burners and everyone in their defensive front can run. I'd love for us to eventually get a blazing, physical interior LB like CJ Mosley to be the tone setter for our defense. I'd love to get some physical zone corners that are actually smart and can press the LoS. I'd love for us to get a powerful, huge DL like they've got, that can also zone blitz and stunt really well.

And I'd love to get some receivers who can actually catch some freaking perfectly thrown passes, let alone go out and make plays on poorly thrown passes.

Are they adequate?

Saying they were on pace for this or that ignores the fact that health has been a huge issue for Helu and a nagging issue for Royster. Royster is a third stringer.

I think WR is a need BTW. Look at the difference in quality between our receivers and Pittsburgh's. Hank man. I don't really care for him. Our group has no promise in it to make up for the fact that they're young an mistake prone. I honestly wouldn't care if we replaced the entire WR/TE core outside Freddy D, Garcon, and maybe Morgan.

Do you think either Helu or Royster have career ending injuries though? From what I remember, Royster was healthy all through college. He isn't getting touches at this point because Morris has proven himself, I think it's way too premature to say he has injury issues. Helu? Well, he has had a bad two years, we'll see what that means for his future.

WR is a tricky one. We have a lot of depth but no studs. Clearly today was a bad day for our receivers, but they aren't why we lost the game. Plus they could look a lot better if Garcon was in the lineup. As much as we could want to compare them to Pitt's wr, remember that the pitt defense is also so much better than our own. I bet our wr could make more plays if they were as wide open as Wallace was. Our defense is atrocious. I don't know how this is the same d line as last year that racked up so many sacks. I think we could use a pass rush specialist like what San Fran had in Aldon or Seattle has in Bruce, though I wonder if those two work for them because their defenses are so complete otherwise.

As for Paulsen, he's pretty much stepped in right where Davis left off. I really don't see a difference in them this year, so even with or without Davis I don't think we lost anything beyond having more depth at the position. Davis was a beast last year, but he just didn't seem to stand out this year. At the very least his contract should be pretty cheap if we resign him.

This thread is almost irrelevant (albeit a great one). We could draft anyone at any position outside of QB and RB and I'd be okay with it. Our entire team is rotten.

Secondary first, safety or cornerback doesn't matter. Then WR and a right tackle to complement Williams. Then wherever.

Never been a huge fan of him, just okay as a player. Would take a guy like Jordan Poyer over him though

Adrian Bushell out of Louisville is a player I like more everytime I see him. Gives up plays here and there but is confident, fluid and while he's not that big doesn't mind gettin his jersey dirty on a tackle. Reminds me somewhat of Lardarius Webb but may be just a step slower. Solid 3-4 round pick who could sneak into the 2nd IMO.

For me the difference between our defense and theirs starts with the DL. But its not their size that gives the Steelers the advantage imo. I'm not sure if their DL is even bigger then our own but they have a more complete DL. I don't think we have many/any DL like Hood, Steve McLendon, Cameron Heyward or Brett Keisel on our roster. And they give the Steelers a lot of versatility in how they play up front, 2-gap, 1-gap, stunt, slant etc.

I love Morris. But Mike Shanahan backs never last long. He just thinks about the position differently than most. He can praise a player effusively but in two years they'll be gone when some better opportunity comes along. He cycles his talent at RB at an extremely rapid pace.

He traded up for Helu and now the guy looks like he's on his way out the door. He loved Tim but cut him the moment his health made him a liability. He's dealt away countless backs and let others hit FA no matter how good they looked. Terrell Davis was the best back he ever had, set a HoF pace, and TD had what, three years of big time carries?

I wouldn't pencil in Alfred Morris for anything long term and I wouldn't turn down trade value for him if it came along, nor would I pass on a back in the draft that I think would be an upgrade. As good as he's been, Alfred's lack of speed does limit him from being truly special.

If I was confident that my running system could produce an effective running game with mid-late round talent I would have a high turnover rate at the RB position also. However; that same success would prevent me from spending higher then a mid round pick to acquire my runners.

Jarvis Jones should go first overall. He's the best all around player at a high value position in the class.

Manti Te'o is tied for second in the country with 5 interceptions. He's averaging 10 tackles a game too. Solid season that's allowed him to show off his strength in coverage. Big striker, good blitzer, excellent hands and athleticism.

My only complaint with Te'o is his tackling really. He takes a few too many poor angles, trusts his speed too much, and sometimes falls off his tackles from using undisciplined form. Other than that, the guy is a very well rounded player. He's one of the class' elite prospects.

So far I've got that list at:

- And probably Luke Joeckel
