McDonald plays in the box and around the LoS a lot. He does a lot of blitzing. That's where he seems to make a lot of his plays. I'd play him at SS to take advantage of this.

I know there is a lot of love for Ansah, but where do we play him? I'm probably as enamored as anyone else, but I just don't know where he fits in our d. SD went after Larry English in 2009 despite having Phillips and being unsure of Merriman then. Now, English didn't turn out, but perhaps it is wise to invest in a rush linebacker when one of yours goes down with an injury, especially because we are in the exact same situation. Merriman had a knee injury in 2008, English drafted in 2009, Merriman became a free agent in 2010; likewise for us Orakpo has a chest injury 2012, Ansah could be drafted in 2013 and Orakpo would be a free agent in 2014. Might be prudent, and if Mario can play olb in a 3-4, I'm guessing Ansah could as well.
Gotta say I've been a big fan of Van Noy on that defense as well. Perhaps only as a rush specialist though I'd like to see what he could do as an ilb. He's a hitter, definitely has short area burst, and he actually covers quite often as an olb for BYU, but if he could make that transition to ilb I think he could be a real pass rushing threat from there as well; and that is something we don't have at that position. I don't know if he comes out this year but if he does he gives us our Timmons, if we're looking for comparable players to the Steelers d.

Ideally if we can get Darren Perry as our DC I would look to add Talib still at a modest deal, along with Ryan Mundy at FS. Get those 2 and add Matt Elam at SS in round 2. and OT in round 3 and a slot CB in round 4 and I'll be feeling very good about this D

Under the assumption that Ansah isn't there. There really isn't another DT I'd take over Richardson in round 2

And honestly I dont think the difference between DJ Swearinger and Matt Elam is that much. Swearinger is a 4th round S, but he's a very good SS in the NFL IMO
