Can yall please stop having a pissing match about the 2011 draft in the 2013 thread?
Also, anyone who wants to take Denard Robinson before the 7th round is a moron.

The more I watch Marquess Wilson the more intrigued I am by him.
I think he's got inconsistent hands, and don't know how well he'll separate. But he's got crazy body control and I think he runs good routes. Good YAC too. Intriguing 3rd or 4th round guy, me thinks...
I think that's highly unnecessary and small minded. I am an advocate of drafting him much higher and I can assure you that I am far from a moron. You on the other hand are making empty statements simply because you can't wrap your mind around the evolution of the NFL. Just like people cried that a running QB can't work or that a spread QB can't transition to the NFL, but many of those same folks are on the RGIII bandwagon. I don't know how anyone can look at our offense, the see the plays we run, and not see how Denard fits. Getting him in the the 3rd or 4th will be an absolute steal if the team actually uses him. Just like the Jets are idiots for trading for Tebow, but not using him and sticking with a struggling Sanchez.
Football is not some static game where there is only one, best way to play and that's the traditional pro-style offense. Innovation wins. Gibbs was innovative with his monstrous line, h-back, and vertical attack. Walsh was innovative with the WCO and timing routes. Parcels ran an innovative 3-4 and Dungy did the same with the Tampa 2. Belicheck is one of the more recent examples with his spread attack and the Giants with their pass rush philosophy. The game is won by coming up with new wrinkles the counter the popular trend and sometimes that's cyclical. We are currently running the most innovative offense in the league because of the option to run or throw. Rather than scale it back to mimic other offenses, we need to expand it so the rest of the league has to catch up and we can win some championships in the meantime.

Well, he's not going to be a QB in the NFL. If you want (and we need) a WR, I'd prefer to spend a 3-4 round pick on someone who has actually played the position in college and has experience running routes, creating separation, catching the ball, etc. We're not in a position where we can risk picks on luxury players. If we took Denard Robinson in the third round I would drive to Ashburn and riot. This is a deep class of WRs, we will have considerably better options.
Because most people realized Robert Griffin III wasn't just another spread quarterback or running quarterback.
Because as time goes on, we'll play less and less of the option and zone-read. RGIII has already gone and asked to play less of the option. There's also no guarantee Kyle will be here, which will mean a new OC, and unless we promote from within, they'll have their own offense---it's still be the WCO, but it probably won't have all the spread and option stuff. We'll always have elements of the option and zone-read and that kind of stuff, but those things will fade away as Robert develops as a passer.I don't know how anyone can look at our offense, the serif if plays we run, and not see how Denard fits.
That's a pretty big if when we're staring down cap penalties and trying to build a team around our franchise quarterback.Getting him in the the 3rd or 4th will be an absolute steal if the team actually uses him.
My thing is, we have a quarterback who clearly doesn't want to be known as a gimmick quarterback, playing in a gimmick offense. We're already starting to see how hard it is to run the zone-read, option and pistol as base offenses, and RGIII has already asked if we can slowdown on it. RGIII talks about being like Aaron Rodgers because that's the quarterback he envisions. The Green Bay Packers offense, the Saints offense; that's where we're going, and those kind of offenses are damn near unstoppable.Just like the Jets are idiots for trading for Tebow, but not using him and sticking with a struggling Samchez. And they get great production without having to rely on gimmicks. Yes, they have Cobb and Sproles, but Cobb had phenomenal, actual production as an actual wide receiver at Kentucky, and Sproles had a proven track record at San Diego and in a pinch can even be relied on to be a spot starter at running back.
Denard's got no track record as anything but a mediocre run first quarterback who's only played a few downs at wide receiver.

Terrence Williams, Tavon Austin, Marquess Wilson, Cobi Hamilton, Ryan Swope, Keenan Davis, Da'Rick Rodgers....
But by all means, let's take Denard Robinson, because maybe he'll turn into someone as mediocre as Antwaan Randle El.
This. We will have considerably better options at WR in the 3rd and 4th rounds than Denard Robinson

Also, if people haven't noticed, our defense sucks. We need to be looking at the best available NTs, CBs, and safeties in the third and fourth rounds
I'd love to see either Hamiton or Swope here if we dont go Wilson
Just living the dream of a college kid wanting to be something

Ryan Kerrigan had a great combine as well Watt had a freakish one. Ryan Kerrigan was also VERY productive so I am really not seeing your points here. I stated that Watt was graded higher but Watt was mocked from like 8-18 Ryan Kerrgian was mocked from about 12 -20.
Steve, my point wasn't that compared to ourselves the FO has done well, my point was that you are using far too harsh of a measuring stick when looking back at the draft. There has never been a perfect draft where a team selected the very best player available at each position. You could always go back and play the what if game.
You believed that Kerrigan was not a fit at all for a 3-4 d, that clearly skewed your view of him as a target for us, and that's ok. Many teams saw him as a top 16 pick, and perhaps he had intangibles that Shanahan wanted. We're not privy to that. Certainly for a player who over-achieves, there has to be some sort of non-physical factor that increases his productivity. Also note we had already brought in our d-line, we had no one at olb. That forced his hand a bit, but it isn't like he had any stand out talents at olb available in FA either.
Regardless Kerrigan had the most forced fumbles in college football history. There is something to be said of a player who just makes plays. Likewise the player like that this year has got to be Margus Hunt. I would draft him in the 3rd for his kick blocking ability alone, even if he never became a starter on defense.
