I missed that. You sure he didn't commit some drunk driving stuff again? Last time a read about him he was in a pretty bad situation...sounds like Bengals to me

It makes you wonder why he couldn't even grab the backup NT position though. He was up and down in college too where you may have a few plays where he'd dominate and others he was singled and still pushed out of the play.

Worth a shot I guess... can't be any worse with Nield probably not making the roster next year and Baker not showing too much yet.

Yea, I believe especially if we are staying 3-4 that the FO has to at lease make a claim for this guy. Sure he may have off the field issues, but with the state of our defense/talent and depth on our team. I don't really think we have the luxury to be picky.

Alameda Ta'amu may finish with more arrests than snaps played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The team released the rookie nose tackle Monday, just hours before playing the Kansas City Chiefs at Heinz Field, and promoted wide receiver David Gilreath from the practice squad.
Given the ankle injury Pro Bowl wideout/returner Antonio Brown is dealing with, the move can be interpreted as necessary and tactical, especially since veterans Casey Hampton and Steve McLendon are capably manning the nose. The 6-3, 348-pound Ta'amu, who was considered a project, had yet to play in a game.
But Ta'amu, a fourth-round pick last spring who was viewed as Hampton's eventual successor, certainly fell out of favor after leading police on a drunken chase by vehicle and foot through the streets of Pittsburgh last month. He was charged with felony fleeing police, aggravated assault, and aggravated assault by vehicle and suspended by the team for two weeks before being reinstated Oct. 30.
He could still be re-signed or added to the practice squad if another club doesn't claim him, but the fact the Steelers would even expose Ta'amu to the competition is a strong indication of their feelings.

I'll be pretty upset if I find out that we didn't at least make a claim... We have a bunch of duds we could release and he's still practice squad eligible. If anything, he'd at least be a lot to handle for our Oline depth and we may actually be able to find some lineman this way. He's got the prototypical size although he needs to focus on keeping his weight where it is now. He was once around 390...

Former Husky NT Alameda Ta'amu is a bit of a mystery as an NFL prospect. At 6'2, 341 he's a giant of a man, with the athleticism and mobility that NFL teams covet in a player his size. The problem though, is that when you look at UW's run defense this last season, you may come out less than impressed (because, frankly, UW's defense, on a whole, was awful). Regardless, after a solid Senior Bowl, he's now being talked about as a possible top-10 pick.

I like Ta'amu's physical profile. Rare size and good feet.

The one thing I remember about him was how raw he was in college. Leverage was an issue for him, getting pushed back by doubles or smaller linemen. Didn't particularly find the ball well. I remember him as being a sort of poor man's Phil Taylor.

If the Chiefs had RG3 they'd make a deep run in the playoffs. If they had Peyton Manning they'd be a SB favorite. Anyone else watch the game last night? Their team is just loaded with talent at every position except QB. That OL should be the best in the league in a year or two. Especially with Moekai at TE.

He's worth a claim, and check at least, I would imagine. See what he offers, and maybe keep him around at least long enough to see how he compares in the offseason with Neild, Baker, and anyone else we've got there, like Cofield and Jenkins.

Even if he can't help this season, it might be worth it to stash him on the roster and see if he develops a bit in the offseason. If we can get his floor up, and keep him out of trouble, he could potentially be a solid NT. Steelers don't pick people unless they've got something worthwhile to offer skillwise, we might as well explore that.

Definite long shot though, but worth the time. I mean, basically it's a free 4th round prospect.

2nd: Fluker, OT/Amerson, CB (Amerson if Brown is healthy; both seem Iike Shannybpicks with high upside, but inconsistency)
3rd: Robinson, QB (I'd rather be a round early than 1 pick too late)
4th: Pugh, OT/Xavier Nixon, OT/McFadden, CB
4th: Marquess Wilson, WR (package some day three picks, maybe a 5th and 6th)
5th: Thomas, S/Swearinger, S
6th: Tyrann Mathieu, DB
7th: BPA (preferably DE, LB, RB)

Well that would be a ridiculously loaded class.

I have trouble getting a good read on Nixon. Part of my is intrigued, part of me would just stay away.

Haven't seen enough of Pugh or McFadden to comment on them.

I like Denard, but I probably wouldn't pick him in the third.

I like Denard as more of a RB but there are other RBs I would probably take ahead of him in the third. I would take Montee Ball ahead of him in the third. It's a personal preference, has more to do with me loving Ball than disliking Denard.

If he's drafted to play mostly WR, that's not necessarily the type of WR I was hoping we'd target early in the draft. I want an outside guy who beats press coverage and is more of a deep route runner like Hopkins. Or if we're looking for a quick guy, I would go Patton before Denard.

The one issue I have trouble getting past with Denard is the position change question mark. Can he adjust to becoming a ball carrier and receiver rather than the guy who takes the snaps?

When I watch Denard, I see the rare speed and playmaking ability and get the same feeling of awe I get from watching Percy Harvin. I see his best case scenario as being a more run-oriented Percy Harvin. He won't be drafted as high as Harvin though, because Harvin didn't have to change positions in the NFL.

If Harvin can be one of the very best players in the NFL, Denard can be a valuable weapon to some team.

The Vikings are lucky. They've got Harvin, the second coming of Eric Dickerson in AP, a gifted TE in Rudolph, plus a nice young LT in Kalil. They've got all of the key support pieces in place to field a dominant offense. No wonder Ponder has seemed to make such large strides this season.

Dee Milliner is brimming with talent. He's a complete package. This is where it's going to hurt to see the Rams use our selection because we could really use this kid.

Being a big 'Cuse fan...I see a couple guys who could help us out next year. Shamarko Thomas, SS. Dude is the fastest player on Syracuse's underrated defense and probably the biggest hitter too. A less-athletic LaRon Landry. Also, Justin Pugh, OT. Not a great athlete, but can definitely move in our ZBS as RT. Right now, he's a much better option than Polumbus.

I was- felt really bad for that team. There were some throws that Cassel just plain missed. It was clear when they ran the two minute drill that the offense has potential, I think they just shy away from throwing a lot because they have no faith in their QB.

It's kind of amazing. They've got a Lambo supercar being driven by an old Asian woman. Kind of the opposite of us. We've got a formula one racer driving a hoop-dee.
