You really don't need brains to tell him to rush the passer on 3rd downs... The Jets defense overall is not too bad but they just aren't sparking right now. I'd take a few of there guys over ours.

Pass rushers still have responsibilities within the scheme. You don't just say "do whatever you want to get to the QB!" when third downs come around. Players still need to be rushing to the specified depth, playing contain, defending for draws, etc. It's not a whole playbook to digest but free agents brought in mid season rarely make an impact on either side of the ball. Sure it's possible he would succeed here. It's more likely he would be a liability.

Its not just Maybin having a down year on that defense. You see what bad defensive line play does to your pass rushers on the outside. Same thing happens to Orakpo and Kerrigan when our line is playing bad... You can't place all of the blame on a pass rusher when your entire unit isn't doing so well. Revis being out hurts the team more than you can imagine. Your own stats just proved this fact. Give the guy a chance... Hell, we have a journeyman offensive lineman playing right tackle...

So if it's the fault of the D-line and secondary that are causing Maybin and others to be terrible, what about our defense is going to change that? Could the lack of pressure by Kerrigan/Jackson/Wilson not be a product of the same issue? You can't argue that for Maybin without giving our players the same benefit.

At this point I'll be bowing out. We can agree to disagree. I've wasted enough space in this thread intended for draft discussion.

Yea, cus we have so many guys on our team that 'we might like.' Face it, we need help. injuries or not, our D is terrible. Cutting Banks or something like that will not hurt this team and it's not your wasted money. Maybin wouldn't even command a million a year and that's if we even sign him. All I'm saying is bring him in. His speed on the outside could really benefit us. Its been said before that Rex had other issues with Maybin and his vocalness. Hell, I'd like to bring back Kehl too...

I'd rather be a fan like me who thinks we do what we can to try and improve our shaky team instead of pretending we have some hidden talent no one knows about waiting in the wings...

Teams are not busting down the doors to sign him. That should tell you something. This is not the Vinny Redskins anymore. He doesn't have a sack this year. Maybin has been cut twice now. There is a issue.

In all seriousness he would add a dimension to the pass rush that Orakpo and Kerrigan lack. The ability to bend the edge. He has a near elite ability to do that along with his super explosive first step. With the jets he disrupted at about a pass play of once per 10-11 pass attempts. Isnt elite but is certainly better than what we have had. Team him with kerrigan on passing downs and hey we may have a semi-decent pass rush

Why did the Jets cut him?

Next Gronk, but faster? He's the brother of Eagles Tackle Jason Kelce. Not too many hightlight films on him but just watch him play...

I'll check him out. But check this out. Mario Addison. He is on the team now, but plays special teams. Instead of Maybin.......he should get a shot.

He's interesting. Some places have him as a top 20 pick, others have him rated as a late 1st, early-to-mid 2nd rounder. I'm sort of thinking he'll go earlier rather than later, good corners go fast these days. Amerson might not even be there when we pick either.

I would eat my hat if Aboushi was there in the 4th. I really don't see it happening. Odds are, in the 4th we'd be looking at Nixon, or maybe if we're lucky, Pugh.

For Walter, I like Vaccaro, guy is pretty beast at S. Buchanan I'm a little less excited about. The only reason I'd go him is if there was a problem with Orakpo healing, and we suddenly HAD to address the position to get a starter. Otherwise, I'd prefer Patton, or maybe Wagner. Wagner is not exactly Trent in the athletic department, but he's got enough athleticism to be effective. Him or Pugh would be good RTs. Also, I noticed McFadden and Mauti still on the board, and both would be "ok" picks in the 3rd for CB and ILB.

Merriweather was cut twice last year, and he's expected to be our starter this year.

The fact of the matter is, we need help rushing the passer, why not try Maybin? All the physical traits are there. Not to mention it's a low risk high reward move.

Joe, btw, is my more favorable choice. More athletic, better at getting to the QB.

Joe Kruger is standing tall for Utah's defense. The 6-foot-7 junior is having quite a year despite being hampered by a high ankle sprain for several weeks.

The defensive end, who has 22 tackles (12 solo) with 5.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage, is credited with five sacks (now 6), two forced fumbles, one interception (returned 24 yards for a touchdown), a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry.

Apparently Cordarrelle Patterson is a lock to come out after this year. He was a JUCO prospect before signing with Tennessee, and apparently his grades are not where they should be,and he would not be eligible if UT were to make a bowl this year.

The guy is absolutely ridiculous with the ball in his hands. A home run threat every time he gets a touch. For two quick examples, check out the kick return at 0:19 and the ridiculous reverse run at 0:57 - he shouldve been dropped for a big loss in the backfield there.
