Imo we already have a complete enough offense at the skill position players to win games. Or at least enough that we shouldn't use our few high draft picks to address the skill position players.
Converserly there are position on offense like RT and several positions on defense that will help build a more complete position group/unit and thusly a more complete team.
You act as if Dennard is the first player ever to enter the NFL that can throw a football that doesn't play QB. And consequently you vastly overestimate the impact of his passing threat. You're basically talking about a 'HB-toss pass play'. And you know why the HB-toss pass is rarely used? It exploits a specific flaw in a defense and once a team sees it once the opportunity decreases to the point of vanishing.I think this sums my view up perfectly. The mentality and flexibility of Morris helps Denard be part of the base personnel as much as Denard's versatility. We can line up in a traditional I formation or spread 4 wide with the same personnel.
Using Denard frequently and regularly in standard plays creates a situation where his throwing is not the primary expectation of defenders and THAT is what's dangerous. Having him throw 2-3 times per game opens the whole offense. He can throw a couple of dump offs to the backside TE dragging and one deep shot and those will make the defense have to stay at home and cover every inch of the field at all times.
I also think you vastly over estimate Dennard or impact in the backfield by and large the threat of having 2 capable runners isn't that much greater then 1 or else every team that has 2 such runners would have them in the backfield and receive some type of benefit from them.
IF Dennard pans out I think a more realistic expectation is a Harvin/Sproles/Antwuan Randle El/Armanti Edwards type impact. Maybe some of the push-back you receive about Dennard stems from your notion that he'll have an almost revolutionary impact on the QB conversion player.
I miss Sean Taylor. That was a football player. Probably the best football player I've had the privilege to watch play for my team.
Often I think about what might have been if he hadn't died. In 2009 we would have had a defense with him, LaRon, Haynesworth, London, Hall, and Orakpo. It's a stupefying level of talent when you think about it. Not even the Ravens or Steelers at their absolute peaks had that much superlative talent.
We are so far from that today. Man that fell apart fast.
Didn't it used to feel like we'd have a great defense forever and we were so far away from having an offense like the big boys of the league? Truly the Not For Long league.

Great start for Merriweather!! Man I hope he works out. We could really use it.

Ryan's not doing a good job defending these screen passes. Giving up the edge.

Merriweather played very well today. Will be interesting to see how he plays the rest of the year

We should draft a safety, but deff go bpa with our 2nd rounder. If we need a safety go in the 3rd or 4th. We can still find a good one. Hell the bears drafted conte from u of cal and he's been great for them and he was a 3rd rounder

I wonder how the Safety situation would have looked this year with Jackson and BM both playing. We also have some young corners that we can look forward to seeing next year. In my mind the biggest single hole we have right now on this team is the RT position. Polumbus just gets abused out there on most days. Today was one of those.

Yeah, Polumbus is probably our worst starter.
I'd like to see us add a few of these types:
- Everydown ILB that can cover and blitz
- Excellent outside press corner that can thrive in man coverage
- Good OLB that can be productive in reserve role and perhaps play ILB too
- Disruptive everydown DL that can either penetrate or run
- Rangy deep safety that can cover
- Sure tackling box safety with good click and close ability
- Good RT that can play on an island
- Receiving TE
- Dynamic, multi-dimensional HB that can create chunk plays
- Dynamic outside starting WR with size to beat the press and speed to be a deep threat
- Also a slot WR with quickness and good hands
- Upgrades on the interior of the line, guys who can make impact blocks
Yeah that's most of the team. I see room for upgrade almost everywhere. I'd just be stockpiling playmakers and impact types whenever I get a chance at them, position doesn't matter much.

I'm glad we moved up for RG3, for obvious reasons. But another reason is that we would most likely had to roll with Rex another year, and think about this year's draft class. That would be 2 more years of Rex/Beck nonsense. This QB class is shaping up to be very bad, which is weird since I thought it would end up great.
Good year to want a WR though, damn there is some talent there.
With the way Kyle is running this offense I think Tavon Austin would be electric. We need scare you type playmakers on offense bad and with Tavon you can line him up anywhere and he is a legit threat. We have been trying to accomplish alittle of what Tavon can give us with Banks but he is'nt anywhere near as talented as a reciever or rb. But I read or heard over the weekend teams like him in round 1 but you never know DeSean Jacksons size knocked him down boards as well. I was crowing for TY Hilton last year for this very reason we need electric playmakers.
Not sure we go safety early with Merriweather looking good if he can keep it up and Tanard more than likely being back. I'd love Vaccaro if we go that route. I still think Oday goes in round 1 teams put a premium on LT and he can play it at a high level but would do backflips if he was there.
I'd love to see Keenan Robinson get more burn at ILB his speed is noticable and he excelled in coverage in college. Can't wait to see if Minniefield gets that knee healthy he will be a contributor.
We have some holes bigger then others and we won't address them all this offseason. If I had to rank them and I was the GM.
#1-CB
#2-RT
#3-PLAYMAKING WR
#4- Passrusher in the front 7
Thats based on Merriweather and Jackson being back but i'd still look to sign a vet or draft a young guy. I'd go after DRC and Talib hard day 1 of FA. I've been very impressed with DRC this year he is causing Nmadi to get torched and picked on. Watching Vincent Jackson play this year has made me wish we coughed up alittle more coin he is a matchup nightmare.
