Awesome win tonight. The defense didn't play well most of the night but it felt like they came up big in almost every key situation.

The pass rush issue could become acute though. Also, the run defense looked pretty average.

The OL played amazing IMO. They are overachieving so much. Garcon made an impact, very comforting. Morris was a stud and RGIII was such a smooth operator. I really think the offense is only a few pieces away from being unstoppable.

Need more playmakers on D though. Hanging by a thread too much on that side of the ball.

As of the Giants MNF game, this is how I think we should draft

2nd) David Amerson - CB or FS NC State

3rd) Brenann Williams OT North Carolina

4 ) Montee Ball RB - Wisconsin - Someone to spell Morris

    5) Quenerus Smith - OLB - wku - need pressure outside of Rak and Kerrigan

    5) DJ Swearinger - FS South Carolina

    6) Joe Vellanno DE - Maryland

    7) Justin Pugh OT Syracuse

    7) Denard Robinson

Separate we are strong, but together we are invincible.

I'd be stoked to get Amerson in the second round, but I'm afraid he'll be gone before we get the chance to pick him. His size is great. And as a Terp I would love having Vellano. With is motor I think he could be a real contributor as an end

Not a fan of this mock at all, and half of the picks really aren't that realistic

We are 5-1 when Garcon plays and 1-5 when he doesn't. If he is healthy for next season I would be pretty comfortable rolling with this offense again next year. I would look for a cheap backup RB in FA and a cost effective improvement at RT. If a cant pass up RT is there in round 2 I would take him too but other than that I really think we can get by drafting BPA on defense for 90% of the draft.

We are in desperate need of playmakers and depth on that side of the ball. We should focus our attention there and take some pressure off the offense and RG3 for next year. I guess I just think the offense can wait a year as good as they have been even without Garcon. Minimal upgrades to get us through the year and a strong defensive minded BPA draft could really set us up on D for years to come.

We should absolutely go BPA to increase the chances for a better return especially on defense. I think we need to grab a RT, WR, and a TE on Offense because it's a decent class coming out. We should spend our remaining picks on BPA's in Defense like CB/FS/LB/DE. I also wouldn't be opposed to trading down/trading low impact players for draft picks either, as I think this is an overall good draft class for most positions we need to fill.

I don't think Pugh and Robinson last to the 7th. If they do, and we get them, I'd be stoked.

Can't speak to the others at the moment, but Pugh shouldn't fall to the seventh. I've seen grades on him as high as 2nd round, but more often things like 3-5th round. If he's there in the 7th he'd be a monster steal, since he could probably start sometime next season.

holy **** we need safeties, safeties, and more safeties. I am almost to the point where I am cutting Hall slack because our safeties are so bad

Amerson hasn't been very good this year. We absolutely need secondary help though. Pass rush is also an issue, but with Rak and Carriker I imagine it'll be much more effective when they're back next season.

I'm not aware of the market around them but my gut says neither should command big contracts. Both are FS. A transition for Mundy should be relatively painless since he'd be coming from a similar role in Pitt's D.
I would love to land Glover Quin he's probably the best talent/price ratio; also in Tier 1 for me would include Byrd (unlikely and expensive) Goldson (older and expensive).
Tier 2 would be Ryan Mundy and I'm keeping an eye on my boy Corey Lynch with the Chargers.

Yeah, I agree that we need more playmakers on D. I think that last few weeks do show though that we don't necessarily need to replace the whole bunch. I'm keeping Hall and Wilson, they just need to be corners #2 and 3, respectively. I honestly feel like an elite DE and an elite DB would make this a top unit. If we can land a great FS in this draft and an outside CB in FA, I think we'll see big results next year.

On a side note, I'm calling right now that the Skins lock up the division in week 15 and sit our starters against Dallas. The Cowboys and Giants will each lose 2 of their next 3 games. We take the division at 9-7.

I'm thinking Te'o should win the Heisman. It's a bad Heisman class but Te'o would be the pick I'm OK with because of the intangible stuff he brings.

Forget about the freshman issue, Manziel has the numbers on the season but he played bad in the Florida and LSU games, both losses.

Colin Klein had a great season outside of one crucial game. His numbers don't pop either. I don't know, the award would feel a little cheap if he won it. Though you could probably say the same about Jason White winning it that year.

They don't get it right very often do they?

Te'o is going to be a great player, 5-7 years from now, we can look back on this year and think, yeah he was worthy. Plus it's about damn time they start seriously considering defensive players.

If they gave the award to the best players with the best seasons from successful teams, I think Te'o would have been the only guy who remained a finalist and I don't think a single QB would make it this year. Luke Joeckel would be the guy from A&M, Dee Milliner would have made it from Bama, Jarvis Jones would be a finalist, Jadeveon Clowney would be a finalist.

If they gave it to the best QB or RB with a great season regardless of the team record & ranking, Teddy Bridgewater and Montee Ball would have been finalists.

Regardless of the injuries, I like Bjoern Werner better than Tank Carradine and Brandon Jenkins straight up. Werner is just ridiculously explosive. I think he's straight out of the Von Miller/Clay Matthews mold. I think he's the #2 3-4 OLB behind Jarvis Jones.

    ---------- Post added December-4th-2012 at 09:42 AM ----------

I think our offensive rank is great but I think it's been propped up a bit by some unsustainable factors. First is all of the defensive TDs this year. That's been a big fluke and has helped the PPG.

Second is the turnovers. It's been abnormally high considering our lack of playmakers on that side of the ball. We've been getting short fields.

Third is the big offensive plays coming off unfamiliar looks for defenses. Eventually our misdirection heavy looks will become less effective as teams make adjustments to personnel and scheme to cope with the new formations and plays we invented this year. We'll still be getting big plays because it's hard to defend, just not as frequently.

We've been pretty reliant on big plays so far.

We're also totally reliant on the health of RGIII and Morris. That's just going to be the case with an offense built around a star QB. But we shouldn't be so dependent on the health of a RB IMO. We need to build quality depth at the position.

And our receivers are still too inconsistent catching the ball.

I see TE, RT, and HB as needs requiring moves to bring in outside personnel. I see WR as a place where outside personnel can be brought in to upgrade the position fairly easily. I wouldn't call it a need though when Garcon is healthy.

LT, FB, C, and QB are positions requiring no attention. LG & RG are positions that are serviceable and have guys already on the roster to develop as potential upgrades for Kory and Chester.

Totally unrelated: when is Madden going to come out with a roster update that accurately reflects Morris and Forbath's ability?

    ---------- Post added December-4th-2012 at 10:15 AM ----------

William Moore, SS from ATL is scheduled for FA. I remember liking him in college. I'd take a look at him.

If you added an elite DL and an alite CB, yeah this would become an elite defense. The problem is in how to get them.

I just don't see that kind of DL making it to FA. We'd have to get lucky finding a sleeper outside the first round in the draft. The same is probably true for CB. I'd love for someone like Xavier Rhodes to make it to the second round but I think this is another spot we'll need to get lucky with a sleeper who eventually grows into that caliber player.
