Disagree. Starting OL emerge from rounds 3 and down regularly. Tris did alot of the leg work on this during a discussion we had last year: http://www.extremeskins.com/showthre...tabase/page805

Even in the 2012 draft there were starting OL from rounds 3 and down but there weren't any Safeties.

Maybe a rookie S that would normally develop on the bench for a season is still immediately better then Maddie Williams.

To be fair there were more o-linemen drafted and o-line has much higher injury rates than safety, so rookies will be forced into the lineup out of necessity rather than by virtue. And too, I imagine safety is one of the toughest positions to transition from college to the pros. Passing offenses operate at such a higher level and offenses are so fast that a few missteps and you just gave up a td. For o-linemen, sure, there is an adjustment period for the athleticism of pass rushers as well as the complexity of blitzes/stunts, but if you pick up one guy, even if it's the wrong assignment, other blockers and even the qb can make up for your mistake.

I mean, let's face it, VERY few rookie safeties have come in and excelled. Taylor, Thomas, Berry, and Byrd are really about the only ones in recent history that I can recall having good rookie seasons, and certainly those seasons were still mistake filled. Meanwhile, on o-line there are many more players who have come in and played great right away. I think that goes back to the difficulty of the transition.

Yes, most likely if we draft a safety in the later rounds, he will never start for us. But at the same time safety is one of the most difficult positions to project, as early round talent seem to have an abnormally high bust rate. I'm not at all opposed to drafting a safety early, but I have my doubts about a 2nd round safety contributing to our team next year on anything besides special teams, whereas I think a 2nd round tackle would start right away.

    Default All things being equal

There is no reasonable way to know whether a prospect will pan out. Therefore when comparing the possible impact/benefit of 2 different position that could be selected in the same slot it only makes sense to compare them both on equal grounds. Saying that postion X taken in the 2nd round will bust but position Y taken in the 2nd round will become a great player doesn't make sense because we don't know.

If a RT and S have the same grade and are equally BPA in the 2nd I'm taking a S because I know that:

o with Tyler Polumbus a below average starter at RT our OL, offense and passing game still function at a very

o There are possible in house replacements being groomed that might be upgrades Tom Compton, Maurice Hurt

o Maddie Williams is a below average starter at FS and is a key reason for poor performance of defense, seconday and coverage.

If both a S and RT were to pan out I think there would be more benefit to the team with the S.

IMO, it's nothing that can't be corrected and not a long term concern. He's a versatile and athletic OL. I have to think he'll be looked at closely.

Somebody is going to take Bacarri Rambo in the first round.

And why exactly do we need him? LeRibeus just proved himself in a big game and Gettis is more than likely to become a starting OG for us as well

Seems like everyone showed up in that game. It wouldn't have ended up so close if the refs hadn't missed the delay of game. Huge games from Deangelo, Doughty, and Wilson. Huge game from the entire defense really.

Way to flip the script tonight.

It was amazing. Why didn't Haslett coach like this all season? Does he just get comfortable? Was it because if he lost he'd get fired? The zone blitz on Romo's 3rd pick was a thing of beauty, Romo literally had 2 options, take the sack or throw a pick.

I think Jim came out and said "okay i'm going to go all out" and it worked. He called the best blitzes we had. I've always wondered why he didnt call more double A gap blitzes and tonight it led to some of the turnovers

    Default The game

The gameplan didn't strike me as that different from any other game.
However, the execution was much better.
Honesty forces me to mention that:
o Austin and Dez being banged up certainly helped
o Romo doesn't respond well to pressure.

Everyone fav whipping boys Doughty was good in the box as per usual.

Hall stepped up and locked Dez down when they were matched.

The pressure got home. Fletch seems to be playing better now that and the mid point of the season. A healthy Fletch makes a huge difference. Why Kackson is ever off the field i don't understand but he continues to get pressure when he's out there

The pressure allowed the DBs a chance to make plays and Crawford & Wilson answered the bell.
Craw did get beat back to back on TD then conversion but he's young and inexperienced those mistakes should get cleaned up with time.

My biggest dissappointment this season was the lack of awareness from the LBs corps in zone coverage. But, today Fletch and Jackson again made huge plays in coverage.

I'm about to get as deep as I can get into the S class here pretty soon.

Alvin can play both OT/OG positions and is suited for the ZBS. We'll be looking OL at some point. I'm not in love with the guy by any means though Dukes.

The play of the secondary was the shocking thing for me. They had their best game of the season as a unit. I was amazed, they were in position almost the whole game, making plays on the ball, being disruptive and locking their guys down. The DB blitzes were getting hits left and right. Dez being banged up helped but he looked pretty healthy earlier and Deangelo was still having a game on him.

That Reed play was absolutely nasty. That was a playmaker on that snap. Everyone was playing above their heads last night.

Where did this come from? Are you re-watching S tape?

Yeah I was watching his cutups last night. I don't think he's a first rounder personally. I don't think he's got the strength on him yet. But I just get this feeling with him that someone will take him in the first. The speed and the playmaking instincts are so rare. It hit home for me watching the game last night. Watching the secondary play well. I could picture Rambo in an NFL jersey out there making an impact with Al Michaels gushing over what a great rookie year he's had and how many turnovers he's produced.

It's kind of like Bruce Irvin last year. I thought Bruce Irvin was a second or third round pick like everyone else. But I did notice how special his speed was and how natural and translatable his pass rushing looked. He did things that reminded me of Von Miller. Lo and behold, some NFL team thought he was special and they took him in the first round. I could see the same thing happening with Rambo.
