Alec Olgetree and Kevin Minter both had similiar numbers to Te'o in everything but INTs (and again, Mauti had 5).

Te'o's entire Heisman campaign was fueled by Notre Dame's undefeated season that wasn't that great, and fueled by the story of how he succeeded through personal adversity. Was Te'o that much better than Luke Kuechly was last year?
No, Teo isn't close to Kuechly. This year's heisman crop was just plain awful though and he was on an undefeated team. Heisman is a glorified popularity contest though. In my eyes the best linebacker in the country this year was Ryan Shazier.

Ogletree has looked awful. I have no idea how that guy is hyped up as a first rounder. He's all athletic ability at this moment, like he may be one of the rawest linebackers I've ever watched. That's promising because he did make plays, but for someone to be 21 and show so little refinement? I don't know if I take that risk.

Either his intelligence is slightly above a rock or he is some type of attention seeking sociopath. Either way it reflects badly on him and on draft day we will find out.

    So you think he's a late 3rd/early 4th guy.

How is Cordarelle Patterson a first rounder, but Ace is a 3rd-4th rounder?

    Round 2-Justin Hunter WR
    Round 3-DJ Swearinger S
    Round 4-Blidi Wreh-Wilson CB
    Round 5-Kerwynn Williams RB
    Round 5-Ace Sanders WR
    Round 6-Damion Stafford S
    Round 7-Chris Thompson RB

Coradarelle is a physical freak of nature who has proven to have #1 receiver ability, Ace is a slot receiver who will be good.

I noticed when checking out a mock draft recently several names that could have been taken directly out of Key and Peele's East/West game skit. Absolutely hilarious.

But watching him play, I never viewed him as a first rounder. If he's drafted that high it has to be largely on potential because his route running is not crisp and his hands are average. I must have seen about 3 Tennessee games this year and I was never that blown away by Patterson...except that botched trick play he ran all the way for a touchdown lol

That whole team was a mess though. Justin Hunter didnt look good, Bray was a mess Patterson was the best of that O. He'll be a very very good WR in the NFL

    Bray was HORRIBLE. Lol

In his situation, I think about guys like Calvin Johnson and Demaryious Thomas were in similar of poor/no QB play, but you were still able to see their "beastiness". I don't see that with Patterson. But I guess its just me.

But I think it would be great to get Ace in the 4th, but I seriously doubt he lasts that long.

I think the way he was used changed and I think he grew as a playmaker in coverage. Notice he was used more as a blitzer in prior years. And I think he played 4-3 OLB for at least his first and maybe even his second season.

I think Notre Dame didn't blitz him as much this season because the DL really emerged as a special group. Before this year you had Ian Williams as a decent NT a year or two ago, but not a whole lot of other front 7 talent around Te'o. Then this year Nix, Tuitt, and Lewis-Moore very suddenly became a top unit. Tuitt was probably the biggest difference maker.

Manti showed some really nice instincts and physicality in his zone coverage this season. He took to that classic middle zone spot drop role and it was nice to see. It was always clear he had the raw athleticism to cover a lot of territory. He did a good job of putting it all together this year. He's got good hands too, a couple of his picks were him attacking the ball and hanging onto it in contested situations.

I think he's a nice fit in a zone blitzing 3-4 because of his proficiency in zone coverage and his versatile ability to blitz. I think he could be a great fit in our defense too if he checked out mentally. But I don't think he'll be an All Pro because of his questionable instincts against the run. Poor angles of pursuit suggests he's slow reading his keys and relies on his speed too much.

All this was very evident against Bama when he just looked completely lost in almost every element of the game. At the next level he will be playing a Bama every game so while I think he will be good I dont think he'll ever be great. Also I agree, with Steve in regards to his drops in zone coverage gets into his drops really well and can cover some ground in his zone of responsibility. I would never ask him to cover someone 1-1 from the LoS but covering the middle zone I think he is ahead of most college LBs.

Played mostly in the box practically on the LOS in this game; didn't hit with pop, took some questionable angles early but settled down, needs to bring his arms more

played some deep 1/2 Safety and made some plays in deep zone (int) and made some nice hits, good man coverage near the redzone got beat by a better throw

perfect read and hit on a screen, nice hit/strip in deep half coverage, beat deep in 1/2 field coverage, follows up with a nice INT in half field coverage

I think he deserves his late-mid to late round ranking

If you would never ask him to cover someone 1 on 1, then he's terrible in coverage. You can't call the same play every time and ask him to drop into the same zone every time because that's all he can do. Linebackers are responsible for occasional 1 on 1 duties against everyone. Sometimes you rotate coverage (in say a zone blitz) and he could be asked to cover whoever goes into the flat. If the RB goes out, he better be able to stick with him.

Default Who are your top 1-5 Safeties?

What Safety do you want when we pick in the 2nd? (regardless of availability)
