Agreed. He won't be a probowl Cb unless he creates turnovers at the clip he did in college. But as a slot cb and hybrid safety at times and used as a blitzer can be a heckva force. I think he has probowl ability on special teams for sure.

Finished looking at two other safeties last night:

T.J Mcdonald- USC FS ( Cal, Arizona, Stanford)
    • Big guy with slightly below avg. speed
    • Good tackler overall: Solid angles and technique
    • Average reaction time/ Instincts
    • Coverage is solid, can be lined up on a slower WR/TE if need be
    • Doesn’t make plays when playing deep
    • Fundamentally Sound player, rarely out of position

McDonald doesn’t have the quick reflexes/instincts and speed needed to be a great FS. He is best suited at SS where he can be used in a variety of ways.

Bicarri Rambo- Georgia FS (Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech)
    • Above Avg. Speed
    • Can’t shed blockers
    • Tackling- Takes good angles and is a good tackler overall. Early in the year he tried a few tackles by standing up which gives him leverage to strip the ball but he would do it one on one which is a disaster waiting to happen. In his final games he showed much improved technique with only a few missteps.
    • Reacts quickly to the ball
    • Centerfielder Type- Has a good eye for the ball and hands to go along with it.

Currently my favorite FS over Reid, McDonald, and Thomas.

I was thinking of using something like the baseline below; adding/removing to streamline our process to breakdown at least 1 game cut-up from each top prospect:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also want to somehow look at/ tally the numbers of:
    plays involved in
    tackles attempted
    tackles made
    yards after contact

    Thoughts?

I like the idea the only issue is the lack of film on youtube. Just from me searching there might be 3-4 games per player max and there is not enough to judge properly on a few things. I might be just searching for the wrong thing though. That list is probably overkill for this audience, it needs to be condensed somewhat. For example, close speed, catch up speed and burst are so similar that they could probably go together . Also read and instincts are difficult to tell apart so they that could be together too.

I would be interested in seeing what happens w/ Marcus Lattimore if he falls in the draft.

I remember him catching my eye their last couple of games that got televised.

Mainly because physically he's a beast. But yea he was showing some good coverage there on the 1-on-1s.

He's a FCS guy, but a big lanky S who can cover TE's. Would be a nice fit here

I agree there is limited film on youtube. But, I wouldn't attempt to breakdown more then 2 games each. We could breakdown 1 of the same game, then breakdown a different game a piece if there was a total of 3 cut-ups etc...(I'll PM)

I agree that list is a bit much. I could do away with a large portion on the list for our purposes starting with more subjective measures.
Maybe we could reach a consensus on the most important traits then give each prospect a grade in that given category between say 1-5 for example:
    ------------------SPEED--------TCKLG----------FS snaps
    Reid---------------4-----------------5---------------------5
    Thomas----------3-----------------4---------------------4
    McDonald-------4-----------------5----------------------3

One of the main areas I would look for are the play stats: tackles attempted/tackles made; plays made in coverage etc, snaps played in the box, snaps played at centerfield, snaps played at slot DB etc.

    Does this makes senses?

I see we are talking about Eric Reed from LSU. Right now Kiper does have him in the 1st round. I've been watching Reed since last year, and I actually like what he has to offer. Also the FS from Texas Vacarro is ranked as the #1 safety on Kiper's big board, where as Reed is ranked #4. I'll post the top 5 safties on his board:

    Kenny Vaccaro Texas 6-1 218

    Matt Elam* Florida 5-10 206

    Tony Jefferson* Oklahoma 5-10 199

    Eric Reid* LSU 6-2 208

Phillip Thomas Fresno St. 6-1 215

The asterisk's means they are underclass men. Those are his top 5. I guess McDonald from USC in his opinion had a so-so year this season.

Am I crazy, or does TJ McDonald remind anyone a little of what we saw from Tanard Jackson in the preseason? (minus the pot)

McDonald is used heavily as a blitzer, so he'll have fewer snap stats in the other spots. Despite being a safety, I feel like he's actually one of the better pass rushers on USC. With his ability to side-step a RB or quickly squirt through a hole between o-lineman. So while it would detract him in the FS snap totals, he's still exhibiting a useful skill.

I feel like Haslett would LOVE having McDonald.

We will probably need two games at least to get enough material on players like Vaccaro who could spend the majority of one game playing CB. We should probably pick the games against the toughest competition if we have the option. A numerical grade sounds good. Regarding the stats on tackles is that something we have to calculate or is there already a resource for this?

Thanks, D&S. He's good but I still like Travis Kelce potential.

Tyrann Mathieu reportedly spoke with the Redskins, Jets at the Senior Bowl

According to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post, former LSU cornerback and kick returner Tyrann Mathieu was in attendance even though he wasn’t invited to take part.

Mathieu spoke with some media members and even some teams, such as the Redskins and Jets.

Mathieu knows he’s going to have to do everything he can to improve his draft stock.
