Believe me, I'm with you on this one. This class might end up as bad as the Jamarcus Russell-Brady Quinn draft. There just isn't anyone worth a high first round pick, but someone will still go there because teams need quaterbacks and you can't be the schmuck who waited til round 2 when all the top qb's got drafted in the 20-32 range.
Think about it, Vikings knew Ponder was a reach in the 1st, and yet, solely because he was drafted in the 1st instead of the 2nd, where he belonged, fans have more confidence in him. At the very least they have more patience with him. Same reason Sanchez still has a career, or that Locker likely won't even have competition next year. Drafting a qb after the 1st says you're not confident in him as a starter. Other positions it is fine, but qb's are so valuable that if you truly believed in one, then he would be your first pick in the draft.
Geno Smith is worth a 1st overall pick, he is a tremendous talent. I don't know where all of this hate on Geno comes from just because the rest of the class has a reputation of being a bad class. I think people put too much stock in his team's performances in the middle part of the season, because individually Geno did not do that badly in those games. He almost never turns the ball over and he has great size and arm strength to make all these NFL throws that he makes. His style reminds me of a better Matt Schaub for some reason.
He will prove me right in time, believe that.

Barry Cofield is LEGIT... no more nonsense about we need a "real" NT... HE IS THE REAL DEAL!!!! He goes to the Pro Bowl this year, book it!!!
If I were a betting man, I would bet Andy Reid takes Geno at #1. He's going to run well at the combine, and Andy likes his mobile QBS (Donavan, Vick)
So are there any sleepers in this Texas vs Nation all star game coming up? Garcon played in that game an got noticed an drafted because of it, j knox also. Just saying gotta be some gems in this bunch was wondering what dukes or others know or think about it?
In my opinion Geno is not worthy of a #1 pick in the draft but we all know that QBs tend to be over valued in the draft compared to other position players
While I understand their need at WB, I don't think Andy Reid is that stupid. I know he likes to think he is a QB guru, but I doubt he's going to take Geno #1 when he can just trade back for picks and still have a chance to pick up a good QB later in the draft. I see them taking an OL or WR with the impending Dwyane Bowe contract saga.
It could get interesting, I could see him swapping picks with Kelly if PHI really wants a QB.
I could also see them trading down a bit and grabbing Fisher, or a tad farther and snagging Allan.
That being said, I still think Smith is the pick. KC needs a QB, and if Smith looks like he's better than Alex Smith, or any of the easy alternatives, he'll probably snag him. After all, for all of Reid's supposedly QB guru-ness, his success is limited to a guy he picked at #2 overall.
I don't think its Reid QB guru title that's in question. Reid consistently gets more production from his QBs then others. There is a long list of QBs whose high water marks of production happen only with Andy Reid.

Perhaps, but the only guy who ever stuck around for more than a couple year and had consistent success was McNabb. He got good play out of guys like Garcia and Kolb, but none of those guys have made anything of themselves elsewhere, with the exception of Garcia, who had an up and down career but had some pretty good years.
I don't think Reid can afford to get a big head about his own abilities, not if he wants to be in KC for any lengthy period of time. Unless he's convinced Smith is not the answer, I think he has to pull the trigger this year, when he's got the 1st pick. If they win 6-8 games next year with someone like Alex Smith, and want to come back and draft a QB, they'll have a much harder time, unless they get a class like '83 or '04. I suppose he could look at someone like Glennon, Manuel, or Jones, and try and develop them into a true NFL QB, but history tells us the success rate of doing that is very low.
