Well those people would be wrong. He actually was a SS. And maybe I could be called a draft geek
He was lined up strong-side, sometimes covering a Slot or just creeping slowly into the Front-7 box, set-up for run support the majority of the time. More than often he was rolled up, closer to the LOS, than farther away, in general.
Did he roll back to deep middle after a coverage disguise? - Yea. Did he split the field in Cover 2? - Yea.
But his position at SC was SS. Though at times their scheme would interchange the safeties based upon what looks the offense would give, which side of the field they went unbalanced. At the very least it was easily identifiable that Swearinger was SS based on pre-snap alignment alone.
Now it's different if someone wanted to say that they think he could play predominate deep middle Cover 1 & Cover 3 type Free Safety. Perhaps what they mean to say is that they see in him certain physical skills that could molded into FS. That's still a gamble because it's a deviation from role. We can all see what his compelling traits are, it's his physical play, his read / react and ability to run full speed at a certain angle to hand out a blow or make a tackle.
But his strengths don't cater to a straight dropback kind of coverage guy. You want him around the LOS. He works much better with stuff in-front where he can read and charge with full speed. Sometimes at certain angles, from Cover 2, he can shoot to the sidelines pretty well.
Monk, I used to think this same thing and I expressed that early in this thread. The limited film out there (I haven't found many actual game cut-ups of Swearinger) has him playing in the in the box SS, money or big nickel CB. With a handful of snaps at center field. But, reading his draft profile actually cleared up a lot.

I liked him. Dukes posted links to his cut-ups and I watched them and broke them down. If I turn a deaf ear to the recent hype surrounding him post senior bowl and trust my opinions from watching him in the cut-ups he seemed like a 3rd round SS/FS prospect to me. Not tallest guy out there but is a gym rat. Moves well, although not the most fluid guy out there. Loves to hit. Can play 1/2 field Cover 2 FS maybe can make the transition to playing centerfield FS, but seems a bit stiff for that role imho.

Yes, I looked at other info and it shows him FLYING up the boards. I re-did my wishlist.have Crypien as our S in the 2nd and Will Allen as our CBin the 3rd.

Thanks for the info, DG. I re-did my wishlist. Let me know what you think about the 2nd and 3rd round picks. Those are the only ones I changed.

I'll even be honest I dont see Cyprien there at 51. I know others do, but when I look at him I see one of the best S in this class

Where is Leveon Bell supposed to go, would love to get him if he's going around the 4th or 5th. Or is that wishful thinking?
