Yup, and that depends on Morgan/Hankerson and Moss/Robinson.

In all likelihood, the best slot WR we can hope for at 51 is Bailey or Wheaton. I personally think Swope in the 4th would be really good, the guy looks like a Wes Welker clone, and every team needs a numbers accumulator.

On the outside, Allen, and Patterson, are gone, and I'll bet at least 3 of the 6 of Hopkins, Woods, Patton, Williams, Dobson, and Hunter are gone, and Rogers' name might enter in there too.

If we end up wanting outside talent, we're really set because there are so many options. If we decide we want a slot guy, it's a bit more delicate since we'll likely have to either take someone slightly before we're comfortable doing so, or have to trade around a bit to get into position.

I don't think this team, or any team for that matter, should draft a WR specifically to fill the role of 'slot' WR based on a certain height/weight/speed requirement other then being a good WR. Imo drafting for a slot WR is not like drafting for a split end/proto typical 'X' WR which typically requires a certain height/weight/speed type to be successful.

Megatron plays in the slot at times, Colston play a high % of snaps form the slot, Green Bay has a rotation of WRs that play in the slot, Roddy White plays in the slot etc.
A slot WR doesn't have to be a Wes Welker type they just need to be good.

We all hope that LeRib becomes a long term fixture at LG or C. Zebrie Sanders dropped to the 5th but it's way too early to decide that Shanahan was correct with this pick. It's possible that Sanders would have been the long sought answer to RT. I'm always hoping that some sought after players selected by other teams get cut and the Skins can have a second opportunity to evaluate. It bugs the heck out of me when your 4th or 5th round draft hope for the Skins winds up being a productive starter on a good team.

Vontaze Burfict? I was similarly screaming in the 5th/6th/7th rounds when we let him pass by. I know no one else drafted him and we already drafted Keenan Robinson but I just don't know how you can pass on that kind of talent. If Mahtieu is there in the 4th/5th/6th round we have to take him.

The ironic thing is people say this stuff about prospects, but when it happens (Matthieu) all of a sudden people see him as a cancer and undraftable. Also, Kapron Lewis-Moore suffered a torn ACL in the bcs national championship, and he was a guy I was very interested in. Seems like this year there are a lot of injured prospects that I would draft, just hope they recover.

Would you guys rather draft a free safety or sign one during free agency?

Who would be the player, of all the available players in free agency and the draft, who would you pick to play free safety for us?

And how awesome would it be if our next FS can play like this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko1iFkz11xg

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...ohn&id=1742045 He would have been the best safety ever

Taylor terrorized the college scene. Florida State coach Bobby Bowden was awed by his skills. "He hits as hard as he covers," Bowden said. He enters the NFL with as much buzz as Lott, Ken Easley and Dennis Smith did in the early 1980s. But as great as those three were, none went higher that No. 4 in the draft. Easley went fourth in the 1981 draft, Lott went eight and Smith went 15th to Denver.

Yeah, he would be in the prime of his career right now and probably be the rg3 of our defense. We certainly need a fs, but we won't see one like him for a very long time. There are a few solid FA available, as long as we address the position I don't care if it is through FA or draft.

We wont see a FS like Sean for a long time. He was a once in a generation type talent at FS

Both. But it has to be one or the other: Draft

Now, question. If we signed, say, Kenny Phillips to play FS (as the one big FA), where would you want to draft a FS? I would think it would then turn into a 5th-6th round type priority. Would you target the Honey Badger to play nickel and get spot time at FS? What if we signed Corey Lynch ... would that bump the need for a drafted FS up to 2nd/3rd round still? If nothing other than for depth? Or, if you sign someone like Kenny Phillips, does that make it more likely that the team addresses either FS or SS ... maybe getting someone like Cyprien if he is there in the 2nd who can play both? Obviously, if you sign Phillips you don't intend on having anyone else play that position for a long time ... so would you go SS to have someone replace Meriweather beyond 2013? That sounds like it would make the most sense

    ---------- Post added February-21st-2013 at 09:59 AM ----------

Grant Paulson expects the Skins to sign one major FA in the secondary. Let's just stick with Kenny Phillips at FS as my hypothetical from above. Phillips at FS and Meriweather at SS. You restructure D. Hall and try to extend Josh Wilson beyond this year to reduce his cap hit a bit. Let's also assume the team addresses RT one way or another. I like the potential of a Jason Smith if he fits the system on a really low contract. Let's say the team is okay moving forward with Compton/Smith at RT in 2013, expecting one or both to emerge as starting caliber in our system. Let's also assume that Santana Moss restructures, since that seems to be the way the Redskins are looking to go. You suddenly aren't in the desperate for a starting FS, CB, RT or SWR. That would be a great off-season and would truly allow us to go BPA in the draft...

Well, I have a feeling that we will sign Corey Lynch, rely on Merriweather being healthy and draft S to groom with one of the mid-round picks. LL has indicated that FO likes Duke Williams from Nevada, he should be available with 4th or 5th pick.

Also, I think you are on to something with your last thought. I do think that Skins will try manuever in FA and with own personnel(moss, hall, etc) in such manner that they will be able to pursue BPA available in draft.

I know Duke Williams would make DG very happy if that happened

Or sign Derek Cox, release D. Hall, sign Corey Lynch ... same effect.

I'm kind of concerned, though. I have an excel spread sheet set up to track possible cuts/restructures. Trent Williams, Barry Cofield could be candidates for restructure and Orakpo/Wilson/Moss for extensions. But outside of that, there doesn't appear to be much to do (outside of Hall obviously). The team may have to make tough decisions, ala releasing Adam Carriker, London Fletcher (hoping he retires) or not offering Rob Jackson a long-term deal. Something is going to have to break here, especially if we want to get a big-time free agent. per my calculations, after setting aside money for draft picks, we could be looking at just $8 million in space for free agents ... and that's with Fletch retiring, Hall being released outright and Moss/Williams/Wilson/Orakpo/Cofield restructuring.
