My 2 cents on the SAF ranking pre-combine:

    REID
    TJ MCDONALD
    ELAM
    PHILLIP THOMAS
    SWEARINGER
KENNY VACCARO (I know, I know, I just don't see it. He looks the part and is gonna run fast but to me he's not a FS)
    RAMBO
    CYPRIEN
    DUKE WILLIAMS
    RASHARD HALL
    TONY JEFFERSON
    ZEKE MOTTA
    JJ WILCOX
    SHAMARKO THOMAS
    CODY DAVIS
    ROBERT LESTER
    SHAWN WILLIAMS

Huge fan of Hopkins. His ability to run after the catch really reminds me of Garcon. There's no way he makes it to our pick, but if he did...

I highlighted the S's on your list I like. Hoping for Cyprien but doubt he falls to us. The others highlighted would be in our range in the 2nd or 3rd.

I don't think more then 3 SAF go off the board before our pick.
I think the top 3 SAF off the board will be Vaccaro, Elam and Reid I think Cyprien will be available at our pick in the 2nd and possibly in the 3rd but if he's not available in the 2nd I think either Reid or Elam will be available. I have a good feeling that we'll land a starting caliber SAF this draft.

D&S seems to think that Crypien goes POSSIBLY in the late 1st early 2nd. I have my fingers crossed we can land him in the 2nd.

Here are my favorite prospects for the redskins by round. Let me know what you think. Also, let me know if you think I have someone pegged a round too high or low.

    2. Jonathen Cyprien / Jordan Poyer / Jamar Taylor / Terrance Williams
    3. Phillip Thomas / B.W. Webb / Kyle Long / Terron Armstead / Gavin Escobar
    4. JJ Wilcox / Oday Aboushi / David Quessenberry / Dalton Freeman / Brian Schwenke / Nico Johnson

Number of moves to set up off-season, but releasing Hall outright, Carriker and Brown. Fletch retiring. Restructuring Tana, Trent, Cofield, extending Po and J. Wilson ... re-sign Davis, Paulson, Jackson, Lorenzo, Kehl, Young and Sundberg ...

Cuts and Restructures get us to $27 mill under. Retaining our own FAs and setting aside $3.3 mill for draft picks ... gets us to $16 mill under ... setting up ...

    Primary Free Agents:
CB Derek Cox (JAC): 5 years $30 million ($4.5 million base in 2013)
FS Corey Lynch (SD): 4 years $13 million ($2.5 million base in 2013)
RT Ryan Harris (HOU): 5 years $27 million (4.0 million base in 2013)
ILB Brad Jones (GB): 3 years $11 million ($2.5 million in 2013)

    Total Spent: $13.5 million
Left-Over: $3.515 million for vet min. free agents.

Which would lead to this draft ...

    2013 Mock Draft:
    2nd: Johnathan Cyprien, S FIU
    3rd: Tyrann Mathieu, CB LSU
    4th: Kenjon Barner, RB Oregon
    5th: Kwame Geathers, NT Georgia
5th: Ryan Swope, WR Texas A&M
    6th: Earl Watford, OG JMU
    7th: Cooper Taylor, S/OLB Richmond

    ---------- Post added February-22nd-2013 at 02:06 PM ----------

    Secondary would be:

    FS:Corey Lynch, DJ Gomes
    SS: Brandon Meriweather, Johnathan Cyprien
CB: Derek Cox, Josh Wilson, Richard Crawford, Tyrann Mathieu, Chase Minnefield

DL: Geathers would rotate in at NT allowing Cofield to kick out to DE on situations to replace the hole left by Carriker.

    DL1: Bowen/Cofield/Jenkins
    DL2: Cofield/Geathers/Brace,Merling, Nield

Thats a pretty interesting scenario but if it happened I think I would be inclined to try to bring back DHall after relaasing for 1-2million a year in case Crawford or Mathieu weren't ready and Minnifield can't be depended on. Also I'd go with Casey at TE over Davis to save a little more money too and hopefully not pay Harris that much. If he wanted that much I'd forget about him, he isn't that large of an upgrade over what we have.

Also like your idea yesterday about trying J Smith at RT for the vet minmum to see if there is anything there in the ZBS. We did pretty well offensively with straight awful RT play last year so assuming Compton/Hurt/Smith is an improvement over Polumbus I'd be comfortable rolling with that.

Under that scenario, I'd go WR in 3rd where there will be great value and he can be the replacement once Moss is gone and depending on if Morgan comes back/Hank continues to grow. You'd just hope Mathieu is there for the second 5th as a project.

Would love to grab Cyprien and Barner too. You'd be left with around $7million left without paying Harris and going cheaper with Casey over Davis. I'd just roll that into next year

Thats not just my thought either. Other draft people seem to think it as well that he goes in the late 1st

Yeah, he's rocketing up boards, I've seen mocks putting him with the 49ers and Ravens at 31 and 32, and Elam going in the early 2nd.

Obviously things will shake up a bit after the combine, but if current trends hold it looks like Vaccaro, Cyprian, and Elam will be gone when we pick, so we're kind of looking at Reid, McDonald, Wilcox, Rambo, and Thomas.

Good points all around. I really just threw out some numbers on those free agents. I honestly don't know what they'll command, but though that was a decent-contract for Harris. It maybe overpriced though, and you're right, not much of an upgrade. I only have Davis penciled in for $2.5 million in 2013 (which could be very low) ... not sure how much Casey would command. I also would outright release Moss and go WR in 2/3 but they've started talking restructure with him so I think they want him back.

The wildcards, to me, are Hall and Fletcher. There's $12 million tied up right there. Hall won't be back for that price ... he;ll either take a cut or be gone ... Fletch I'm torn on. Love him, but don't want him to damage his body long-term and also think it's time for someone new to take over the reigns.

That's the TE I hope we get even though we are not on this list.

    Wow .

Oday Abouishi only benched 17 reps at the combine. There are plenty of DBs that can beat that. He really doesn't have much strength. On a positive note, my boy Terron Armstead benched 31 reps. The knock on him was competition and body strength and he showed the upper body strength today and the competition portion in the Senior Bowl.

I'd like to get him in the 2nd. I think he warrants it. He could be a bookend tackle with Trent Williams.

Also, I'd like for us to take a look at Brandon Kaufman. WR from Eastern Washington. The man looks extremely solid. 6-4 215 with good speed and great hands. I think his route running needs to be polished a bit but he looks like a good 6th round pick.

Separate we are strong, but together we are invincible.
