Denard Robinson is playing tailback today while his throwing hand is injured.
Fascinating. Gonna have some film for NFL teams to get a look at him at this position.

I think he's a change of pace type running back.
I see some projecting him at WR which does make some sense, but Denard is more of a runner IMO.
I think his ceiling is as a more run oriented Percy Harvin type. I really like his playmaking ability.

The thing I like about Denard is his ability to change gears and pace himself. He's a patient, instinctive runner with good vision. He does a good job setting up his blocks and then he's got the speed to explode upfield.

It's absolutely ridiculous that Alabama is playing W Kentucky this late in the season.

Fairly high praise, I'll be excited to see how his career unfolds.
PS totally off topic, but I can't tell you how frequently I revisit what I would consider a combination draft board from this thread a couple years ago. Long story short, there very easily could have been an ES Draft that would have landed us JJ Watt and Justin Houston, could you imagine?
Wait, what! But I was told that him being a change of pace RB and slot WR is impossible. There's no room in our offense for a guy to put up 120 yards of offense on 15 touches. That's just crazy talk.
But now that I've gotten my sarcasm out, seriously our offense can use a versatile, explosive weapon like him that can get the ball in space near the LOS and just make plays. He's a matchup nightmare, especially on the field with RGIII.
I think if ES had drafted in 2011, we'd probably have a Nick Fairley & Justin Houston draft. I think there were enough people who didn't like Gabbert to have passed on him. After that, I think most had Nick Fairley in their top five, nobody really expected him to be available at all.
If not him, then probably Quinn ahead of Watt, which I'd be fine with honestly. Watt's day is today, but I believe Quinn is going to be one of the best edge rushers in the NFL in time. I can't get over how good he looked against Trent. There are not many people in the NFL who can be a physical mismatch for Trent. Not even Ware or JPP. But Quinn was.
On Denard: Yeah a Harvin comparison is high praise for sure. I didn't get a good read on Harvin before the NFL, but having watched a good bit of him since, I think the world of him. I think he might be the best "ball carrier" in the NFL right now. Definitely up their at least.
Denard is not going to be as initially successful as Harvin was though. And he's not going to get drafted nearly as high. Denard has to change positions, which I believe will depress his value and slow his development down. Harvin, while a tweener, doesn't have to be a tweener though because he's a good enough pure receiver to thrive if that was the only thing he was asked to do. Denard is a true tweener IMO.
Denard is a pretty special player though. When this season is over, he'll go down as one of the greatest players in Michigan history. That's saying something. I think these kinds of historic players often have that special intangible spark as players--athletic genius/competitiveness/toughness & resiliency that gives them a leg up at any level of competition.

Every offense could use that.
No one doubts that IF he were to reach his potential he would be beneficial.
But every offense could also use a CB1, CB2, FS, SS, Pass Rush DL, RT etc.
And IF any of those positions were drafted and reached their potential they would be beneficial also especially considering the level of play at the players that currently hold those positions on the roster.
All draft picks are risks, at best the draft is about a 50/50 prop. But imho player's like Dennard pose even greater risk because everything about him is a projection to a new position and entering an undefined role.
For an incomplete team with limited resources that already has a potent offense can't you see how/why many beleive the possible benefit isn't worth the gamble?
Denard's injury might be a blessing in disguise because it's pushed him into the RB position now. And with Fitzgerald Touissant getting hurt, he should get a lot of opportunities.
His play today was excellent. He looked natural and dangerous. The only two plays I thought he had missteps on were a screen pass that he ran the pattern a little slow and a wild cat draw play where he oversold the pass and let the holes close up. Neither were bad outcomes, he still got a one yard gain off the draw. The screen pass was thrown early by the QB, it was a bad throw too and not totally Denard's fault and it was a harmless second down incompletion and they still got the first down next play.
Anyway, his performance today is the kind of performance that would be very valuable to any NFL team. 15 total touches, 122 total yards from scrimmage for his personal yards. More yards left on the table from unnecessary penalties like that silly hold and that bock in the back on the double reverse.
The 40 yard scamper was basically a display of what it is that is so appealing about him. He has a tremendous ability to break down defenders in the open field. The screen pass early in the game was nice, he looked like a natural RB on it. There were also a lot of short gains that were impressive. Denard doesn't leave many yards on the table. He can pick his way up field between the tackles to keep the chains moving just as competently as he can make those big chunk plays out in space.
The option play that Touissant unfortunately got hurt on was actually really sweet too. First it was an interesting formation. Almost like a pro set only with a third running back lined up further back and between the split backs. Denard took the handoff and ran the option right, drew the defender and made a beautiful pitch right before getting leveled that got Touissant up field.
It was a creative play that would be something we could run with him and have four dangerous runners in the backfield that the defense would account for.
Denard's tough. And he's bigger than people think, something you notice when he's playing RB instead of QB. I think he's a very interesting RB prospect.
He didn't throw the ball once today. He can't throw the ball right now, and his ability to throw was not a threat to the D at all today so they never keyed on it. And yet he still had a highly productive day. I imagine he'll be harder to defend once he does get that threat to throw back.

Alfred Morris's ability to play some FB is also an interesting offensive option IMO. With him, RGIII, and then a guy like Denard, you have three high quality, multi-dimensional ball carriers.
I think it would make winning the numbers game up front a lot easier.

Anybody watching TE Joseph Fauria for UCLA? Guy is balling out in the first half vs. USC. Huge target, very difficult to cover. I would love to see us get a big, sure handed TE target for RG3 in the draft. I really like Fauria and Toilolo from Stanford.
I was looking up info about Percy Harvin on Wikipedia. Has anyone seen his list of records and awards on that page? He's about as decorated as Audie Murphy.
First, he's already set four Vikings records, with all purpose yards and Kick Return TDs being the two most impressive.
Then this is his list of honors for football and track in his lifetime:

- 5 of the top 10 single game QB rushing performances in conference history, including the top 3,
And one more interesting stat--one more passing TD and he'll be the first player in conference history to get 50 pass TDs and 40 rush TDs. He's been a scoring and rushing yardage machine.
Here are some other records and awards he's accumulated:

I like the story of him running the 100 meter in 10.4 seconds with his shoes untied. I am really curious to see what kind of 40 he runs. I think there is a chance he runs as fast, maybe even faster than RGIII.

DB Aaron Hester of UCLA has made some impressive plays against USC.
Has shown some good coverage on deep routes.
