I know you guys know alot about college players and do a great job in here, but when you guys are considering the players we might take, are you taking into account that they are team captains like Shanahan prefers?

Actually, that is one of the very first things I look at when looking at a player. I also look at what major their taking, whether or not they've graduated ahead of time or are on schedule to graduate. One other thing I look at is their versatility. What position or positions they played in high school and I also look at wether or not they were multi-sport players in high school. I also see what outside activities they're involved in.
RGIII came up on my radar initially when I was looking at QB's prior to his final year because of all these factors. I never once thought we had a chance of getting him but miracles do happen.
Tugging at my heart string with the last 2 picks.
But, I bet the terps will still be available via UDFA.
Love the Duke Williams pick, he's my sleeper FS prospect.
Like the 1st 3 picks.
I have a fear of drafting players coming off a major injury.
Don't like Quanterus Smith hieght/size for OLB.

Nope. Not me. I'm not attempting to predict which players our FO will take.
My sole goal in desktop scouting is to make an accurate assessment on the total skillset (that I'm in a position to know by observation) of the prospects then rank the prospects accordingly.
In my draft projections I look at different mocks and try to estimate which players will be available when we pick then I select the player I believe is the best prospect.
When choosing the 'best prospect' I take into account scheme when appropriate.

USC wouldn't let him play but the fact that Georgia cleared him has to count for something. 12.5 sacks in 11 games is impressive, take out Florida and Missouri and it's still 7.5 sacks in 9 games, which isn't bad, but you can play that game with any prospect if you remove their best games. I have a feeling the stenosis is not overly severe. It's a risk to be sure, but he's been relatively healthy and I think teams would be overthinking if they passed on him.
Btw, anyone feel like Mingo will be drafted high and become a huge bust? He is lightning quick, but just does not produce. 4 sacks could be a fluke, but only 5.5 tfl on the year? TJ McDonald has more than that while playing safety.

Yeah Samuels had Spinal Stenosis and had a decade long career worthy of his draft status. I'm not too worried about the injury. If it comes up, it comes up. Not much we can really know about his medical situation from our vantage point.
I watched a lot of Jarvis Jones and it wasn't just Missouri and Florida he looked amazing in. He was dominant against Alabama, Buffalo, Auburn, and Nebraska too. He led the nation in TFLs. He flashes off the screen constantly. Should have been a Heisman candidate but he missed two games and his team didn't have a good enough season. Still, I think he's the best draft eligible prospect in this class and had the best individual year among any of the elite guys.
He's an all around force. He's got a powerful array of inside and outside rushes and he's a tremendous natural athlete. Super active and instinctive. Super high motor. Can play the run and can drop into coverage. He's a block beater. Just like Kuechly was. A natural linebacker. Some players just know how to defeat blocks and Jones is one of those guys.
Re: Mingo--I've never totally bought in with him. The production isn't there and his instincts are crap. He's a physical specimen. His length and build are ridiculous, he's unbelievably fast and fluid, flexible, agile. Just a superman type athlete but he doesn't produce. He's built like Aldon Smith though. I think he's a tough projection. If you can unlock his potential he could be a monster in the NFL but right now he's a huge project IMO. I'd say early to mid teens should be his range. At that point your potential upside is so great he becomes an appealing project. But I can see him taking a while to show anything.

Well, with Lewis retiring, I guess we need to seriously consider Fletcher calling it quits too. He's only a few days younger. He's had an incredible season, and it would be nice for him to go out on top. I think we have useful stopgaps in place, but neither Robinson nor Riley will come close to replacing him, I just hope they do enough to keep the position solid. I like Van Noy at ILB, but outside of him, Mosley and maybe Alonso, at our draft range, I'm not overly impressed with this year's linebackers.
Fletcher should seriously consider becoming a LBs coach. Not a lot of players have the ability to become successful coaches after they retire but Fletcher has shown how well he can lead the defense and the influence he has on the players. Even the coaches trust him to change the calls on defense as he deems necessary. IMO after he retires he should transition into a similar role as Phillip Daniels, and work his way into a LBs coach or something.
