o I don't think Bobby Turner would ever bring in a back that didn't have vision. Torain and Hightower failed for a bunch of different reasons, but I don't think lack of vision was one of them.
o Andre Ellington vision, cutback and elite speed would be a great complement to Griffin's speed. He's just the type of back that I would want in the later rounds problem is backs like him don't make it to the later rounds, there were 2 late round/udfa backs that fit that fit that mold for me last year Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps and we tried to get Demps
o Monte Ball is another good back but he's (a) very similar to Morris and (b) like Ellington will be long gone before Turner/Shanahan will likely look for a back and (c) Turner/Shanahan have been uncovering late round backs that fit this scheme the way Ball would for years
RE: Defensive Ends
When I look at DE/DT now 3 players come to my mind JJ Watt, Cullen Jenkins and Justin Smith and invariables as much as I try not to that is who I end up comparing the DE/DT prospects too how much like those guys are they?
Some people mentioned: Sheldon Richardson and Ezekiel Ansah
Watched Sheldon Rich vs Georgia and Ziggy Ansah vs Utah State
Liked what I saw from both:
o they seem to be active players, can take on and split doubles, can win 1 vs 1 a lot of the time
o Sheldon is more used to playing inside, Ansah more outside
o Ansah has more speed and quickness, Sheldon has more girth/stout,
o I really like Ansah loose body movement he seems like more of an athlete, though Sheldon can move to for a kid with his build

I want us to have Ezekiel badddddddd!!! He has Superstar written all over him.
How does Ellington make our offense better then? You're talking about a second or third rounder with him too, and you're talking about a guy who will only get around ten touches a game. I'd rather have a guy who could handle a full workload and have no dip in our running game if we need him to come in and pull a heavy load. Especially if I'm taking him in the middle of the draft.
Would Ball replace Morris? Maybe. Would that be a bad thing? Not really. Worst case scenario with that is Ball ends up being better and you can trade Morris for some draft picks.

If you could choose one player in this draft to have, who would it be?
Related,
Who do you guys think is the best player in this draft?
I think Jarvis Jones is the best player in the draft.

Ellington would make the offense better because of his speed. This offense is gonna create some huge running lanes and get the RB to the second level often. Ellington is the type of player if he gets to the second level of a defense they're gonna be in trouble of giving up a long one every time. And with Griffin as our QB I would want speed to be an element of the offense defenses account for. Who knows how many touches he could get 10+ runs, 5+ passes or maybe more? Imo this staff could find plenty of useful backs that can eat carries like Alfred does and hit line drives and doubles, but Ellington is a home run hitter.
Drafting another Alfred Morris imo doesn't build the team, it collects talent. The difference between the them isn't enough imo to warrant using a draft pick that could help build the team in another area.
I don't think Morris would fetch us enough draft picks to be worth it. I'd rather have a 2 back set with Morris and Ball. Even though we've sort of had us as a big time passing team with the drafting of RGIII, I think drafting Ball and fixing the RT spot could give us the undisputed most dynamic rushing attack in the NFL. Between RGIII, Morris and Bell, we'd get 200 yards on the ground regularly, and produce big plays in the passing game as well (right now teams are STILL giving up the rush yards inside and not really stacking the box because they're terrified of RGIII taking the top off the defense).
My dream draft would be Aboushi/Ertz or Fauria/Ball, or Aboushi/Ball/Jake Stoneburner. Yes, no defensive draft picks, but if we get Talib in FA and move Hall to FS, get Rak and Carriker back healthy, while hiring a Rex Ryan or Ron Rivera as DC, then our defense will be passable at worst, and we'll probably have one of the three best offenses in football, and the one thing our defense HAS done well this year is make plays and get turnovers.
I don't see how drafting a RB before the late rounds adds anything to the offense unless that back has a different skillset then our current stable of backs. With Griffin as our QB we've already made the paradigm shift to more of a running team and we actually lead the league in rushing, despite really having only 1 back that is 100% healthy and knows the scheme.
Getting 2 backs on the field at the same time and getting any real impact from them sharing a set is rare. There are strong running teams that already have 1,000 yard capable backs x2 and those teams can't get them on the field together to make an impact.
Imo if you're gonna have 2 backs on the field together it requires (a) a creative offense with creative formations and concepts [check] (b) one of the backs needs to be a speed back with a skillset similar to Banks or Aldrick and in that regard Ellington would be better fit imo.
We're assuming a whhoooooolllle lot that Alfred Morris would get us some big time draft pick.
The trade that sent Champ to Denver and bought Portis to Washington was a unique circumstance; namely, Champ Bailey didn't want to be here (or his wife didn't want him to be here), he was going to hold out if we didn't sign him long term, and it was a situation where (at least in the minds of Gibbs and Vinny) they could get rid of someone who could be a potential problem and get a player they really liked. Clinton also had at least two years of production.
When Mike traded Tatum Bell to Detroit, he got Dre Bly, but he also have to give up and offensive lineman and a draft pick to get him, albeit a late one. Reuben Droughns was another guy that got traded for a player. But we're not talking high end draft picks or super high players (well, except for Champ).
Then you have to take into account that the entire NFL knows Mike Shanahan's backs tend to only really thrive in his system. That's going to hurt any potential value Alfred Morris has.
So the notion that we'd be able to flip Morris and get some great value is fundamentally flawed. Usually when Mike moves a running back, yeah, he gets some value,, but we're not exactly talking about A-listers here, except for Champ, which was basically a once in a lifetime trade.
Lattimore just hurt his knee horrifically.
The injury actually looked worse than the one last year.
It was nauseating.

I am in shock from what I just saw from Lattimore... prayers to him and I hope his mom is okay. Dude is a fighter, if there is a road back, he'll be on it.

Ellington's speed is impressive no doubt. But I'm not impressed with his vision or his power to the point where I think it limits his potential to make an impact in our scheme.
I think Ball improves the offense more than Ellington because he's a significantly better player. I don't want to over-think things to where I forget that point.
Ball does bring a different skill to the table than Morris because he's a lot faster than Morris is. Ball is a homerun hitter, he's got 68 career rushing TDs. His ability to make defenders miss is special. He's not just a guy who grinds out carries. He's a potential star--Arian Foster-esque.
It depends on where he goes in the draft. I wouldn't want to take any back in the second. Not with Morris here and not with the potential LBs, DBs, WRs, and OTs available in the second. But if Ball makes it to the third or fourth round, that's incredibly tempting. I have a hard time thinking of a better way to spend a third or fourth rounder than on a special back with Probowl skills and potential.

Yeah, I hope he comes out OK. Seeing things like that happen is the worst thing about football. Just horrible and depressing. I really hope the guy makes it back from this. He's a true talent and I'd love to see him make it to the NFL. It's awful to watch that happen to someone, especially someone as promising as him.

Real tragic injuries like Lattimore's makes me wonder if it wouldn't be better if we had a minor leagues for football that a player could immediately get paid out of high school like they can for baseball. Any money or signing bonus would be better than nothing.
I really hope USC lets him keep his scholarship and finish out any degree he wants from their school.
