Yeah, that is a big problem with that area, with each of those cities (which are like counties in most states) having their own revenue stream. If the area was like Fairfax County (Where only the city of Fairfax is their own zone) it would be easier. When I lived there in the early 80s, it was very strange to have all these small regions rather than one big county containing them all.
Agreed, I thought about making that parallel earlier. Really passionate fan bases that have had their interest systematically destroyed by abysmal ownership. I will give Sacramento this, a lot of the people in Sacramento are still passionate about the Kings. It seemed like most of the people in Charlotte did not care that much after being being kicked in the junk by Shinn time and time again.
Sacramento doesn't deserve to lose their team. It'd be nice if there was some way to force the ownership to sell if they were demonstrably incompetent and shady. It'd be a shame if the Kings moved.
And I'm not sure I'd want to support a team with ownership like that even if they came to my doorstep.

Sorry, but comparing Snyder to the Maloofs is insane.
No one ever will say that Snyder won't spend to make the Skins better. Or FedEx field better (again, spending - not actual results).

Snyder is no dummy, and he isn't broke (or pretending to be, whichever the case may be with the Maloofs)... but he also isn't particularly easy to roor for!

hey... i already conceded that the Maloofs were quite probably the worst owners in all of sports.
Snyder just also isn't a prince charming.
fortunately i get to enjoy BOTH (the Kings and the skins are "my" two teams... sigh )
That was contemplated in the George Shinn/Charlotte Hornets situation, but Stern did not have the sack to follow through. It probably would set a dangerous precedent though. If they did things like that, there is no way that Donald Sterling would still own the Clippers.
We harbor the Atlantic Fleet, so we're definitely THE largest!
And even though a lot of the military are not Natives of Hampton Roads, I believe we would do well supporting a professional BBall team.
I know people say the Destroyers won the league championship as well as the Admirals (and their historic run) but one is a low budget league and the other is a subjective sport that not a lot of people follow.
I know every time I go to a Tides game, the Park is usually full (especially on $0.50 cent hot dog night).
If a city like OKC can build a team and gain loyal fan support in just a couple of years, I believe Va. Beach can pull it off too (as long as we draft a Durant and Westbrook).
Listen to what you just said: 50 cent hotdog night? Name one thing at a NBA game that you can get for 50 cents? A lot of military down here, but it's a fixed pay scale that isn't going to let them go to NBA priced games on a regular basis. Maloofs will start trying to cater to people on the North End and Shore drive, I can feel that mess coming.
Also agree that the way these "cities" work with each other is just weird. I wish they would just come together to make one big city, but VA beach is too conservative and making money to want to be bothered with literally being attached to the hip with a city like P-town or Bad News. It will happen only if they powers that be feel they can make more money combining then being seperate. I wonder if federal funding would change if all 7 cites did combine into one???

We don't know what we think, we don't know what we know. All we have to go on, is what we say and what we show...

Notice I said "especially" on hot dog night. Its pretty packed other nights as well.
I stay in a nice neighborhood, with plenty of military people. I know how much they paid for their homes, so their "fixed" pay scale isn't as bad as you make it out to be. If they can afford brand new cars and rims, they can afford to go to an NBA game.
As far as having the cities work together, that's a complete joke. The dignitaries and mayor of Newport News could give two's about Va. Beach. They're too busy trying to build the cities Town Center as well as more condo developments uptown to draw more people their city.
Like I said, having all 7 cities is work together to bring a sports team is a fallacy.......keep dreaming.
