Wow. Can Cundiff block while he kicks? That seemed to be the biggest problem I could see with Gano last year.

Cundiff did have a booming leg on kickoffs. But so did Gano, most of the time. Maybe it was the "most of the time" that got him. Just didn't see this coming.

I thought, based on past performance, Rackers would have won the job from Gano. But when Rackers got cut, I figured Gano was really showing some development for the coaches to give him the job. Turns out, Rackers' release wasn't really a vote of confidence for Gano after all.

Let's hope Cundiff has a season like his Pro Bowl season from a couple years ago.

I hate to resort to this, but Cundiff was on my fantasy team last year and very few times was he beaten by the other team's kicker.

I know there are a lot of things involved in those stats, but hey, he made a lot of field goals. I drafted him again this year before he was cut..was going to drop him but hey, now I'm a homer so he's not going anywhere. Haha.

    We'll be fine.

This is the worst move I have seen with the Skins in many years. Cundiff is not a good kicker - Gano has much more upside and I beleive this move may cost Shanny his job when Cundiff misses alot of kicks this year.

Absolutely horrible signing. Shanahan makes me question his football knowledge with this move.

Misses a lot of kicks like Gano has the last two years, right? Cundiff had a great season in '10. He regressed last yr but still made a higher % of his kicks than Gano. If the truth is somewhere in the middle of those two seasons, he's an upgrade and if he kicks to last year's production, its a wash.

I also don't understand this upside argument with Gano. He's a kicker. Its been 2+ yrs. This isn't Akers 2.0

I don't really see the difference b/w the 2 kickers honesty. Some of you guys are calling this a terrible move. I call it substituting one average kicker for another who is better at kickoffs

best post yet. better at kickoffs, and higher % made on fg's. gano cost us both games against the cowboys last year, and that can not be forgiven

Can someone remind me of the last game Gano trotted out and you felt absolutely confident it was 100% in? Every time he came out I held my breath and anyone who says different is nuts.

Don't feel bad about resorting to this; good data. THAT is how you measure things, empirically . Cundiff is actually a good kicker. Gano may be. Get, and take (thanks front office) any advantage we can find. It's the little things.....

I swear football message board males are way more high-strung and emotionally reactive than any stereotyped woman PMSing.

Two very simple, logical, and straight-forward reasons were given earlier in the thread (and are easily available to anyone reading about, or actually familiar with, the matter) were offered as to why make the move. And there other valid supporting arguments beyond those two prominent reasons I just referenced.

Is it still debatable? Sure. What isn't on this kind of board?

But the knowledge right out there in the open should be enough to limit the "wtf?" stuff there's so much of in this thread. It's a behavioral marvel how so many people are much more invested in making noise about something than actually knowing about it.

Some conspiracy theory here but, if true, I'd guess that Banks might not make the cut either. Danny Smith seems to be a huge Banks supporter, but Mike seemingly wants more from Banks.

I don't like the move and I don't like that Cundiff came here because he knew that he was not going to have to compete. I hope he's awesome, but I'm not expecting it. If age isn't a factor I don't know why we dropped Rackers.
