best post if you have no idea what you're talking about.
I wonder if people actually remember his misses... and how many of them were smacked back in his face by a lineman bowling over his guarfd and center.
some of y;'all .. i wonder what you're watching.
6 kicks blocked and somehow it's him missing.

This move screams "win now". Staying with Gano is what a team trying to continue a rebuild would do. He's my age and way more upside then Rackers or Cundiff. I wouldn't be shocked if Cundiff is gone in a year or two and we go after another veteran kicker coming off a big year (hopefully younger).
Question: How much of Gano's blocks were attributed to him or the special teams blocking unit? As much as I want to defend the guy, hate this move, there must be something on tape Shanny saw that he simply said "F it"...
We don't know what we think, we don't know what we know. All we have to go on, is what we say and what we show...
I wish Rackers had won the spot.![]()

Our unreliable FG kicking game just got marginally worse or marginally better...what's the big problem?

I don't think the K position should ever be used to determine organizational philosophy. With all the key players we have younger than 25, I really doubt we are gunning for a Lombardi due to swapping out kickers.

"Washington strolled to the NFC championship, outscoring their two playoff opponents by a combined total of 48 points. Their domination was more than impressive, it was historic. The 1991 Redskins boasted the largest average margin of victory among all Super Bowl champions."

I don't think Gano inspired confidence with anyone. We keep hearing about his strong leg and young age. He just never really got better. I find this signing very odd. I have been very open in my criticism of Gano, but it is odd to drop a young kicker for only a fair veteran kicker. I think that the coaches figured out he is a head case or still has lingering back issues. I can't ever remember a kicking competition that resulted in both getting canned. Hope it works out.
Everyone noting the age swing of 7 years and bemoaning the younger guy gone in favor of a 32 year old .....
Regardless of what anyone thinks of their respective worth, or lack there of; this is a kicker we're talking about here right? Not some RB that's gona' take a pounding. Or some linemen going through serious physical punishment day-on-day. But a kicker.
What am I missing in a 32 year old kicker not being old?
Hail.

I'm surprised by this move. I think Gano has upside. I would hate to see him become the next David Akers . . .
The press asked a Redskins executive about the salary cap penalty and the executive responded, "Ask John Mara." So the press asked Mara and he said, “What they did was in violation of the spirit of the salary cap. "
Oh I see now, even though there was no actual salary cap in 2010 according to the CBA, the "spirit" of the salary cap still existed. Thanks for clearing that up Mara.
Regarding the blocked kicks, yea, not all on Gano obviously, but what about all the other misses? If I recall correctly, didn't he lead the NFL in missed field goals the year before last as well? I'm sorry, but Gano sucks and has sucked for his entire time here. That kicker up in Baltimore that beat out Cundiff is a rookie. Why is it that he looks like he belongs right now, but we're still making excuses for the "Young" Gano.
This isn't a David Akers situation, where we gave the guy 1 game. We gave Gano ample time to show us something. Outside of having a really, really strong leg, was ANYONE here confident in his ability to consistantly hit FGs? I know I wasn't.
This is a good move. Cundiff is probably the best kicker we've had since...John Hall? (thats depressing in itself) Hopefully, he'll continue his success here.

"So I just say, 'I'm healthy right now, I'm going into my fourth year, and why not do the best that I can?' And that's whatever it is, whether it's eating right or training myself right, whether it's studying harder, whatever I can do to better myself."-RIP to the best safety the world has ever seen.
What this tells me is that Gano sucked in practice, and they weren't willing to accept another 21/31 year.
What I don't get is why not have a competition instead of releasing Gano outright. Makes no sense to not have a competition.
