Thread: Hero #2...Billy Cundiff

What I can't figure out is why a guy who has such a supposed strong leg and was brought in for booming kickoffs and his great touchback percentage seems to have such a short FG range. The 57 yarder didn't look close. Would some good coaching increase his FG length and accuracy?

I find it hard to believe that with all the guys that graduate from college each year that there aren't enough around that we can find someone who is consistent. Crazy.

And the reasons would be that we cut him after every other team had already had their kicker competition......kind of like we did....and had their kickers in place. Gano has been an average kicker with potential.....but no other team was going to roll those dice after pre season. Heck, rackers is still unemployed and his fg pct is better than cundiff or gano.

Cundiff has some positives such as kick-off's resulting in touchbacks......and while everyone is entitled to a bad game.....dont think cundiff can afford to many more 1 for 4 games and remain a Redskin.

He looked terrified prior to his last kick. I was so nervous watching it. I was literally pacing back and forth in my basement

The OP did make me LOL tho. You're "uncomfortably comfortable" w/ Cundiff? Jeez... I'm only being about 5% results-oriented from week 4 when I say... "Uhhhhmm, no."

Not to offend many of the posters here who, by the tone of their posts, consider themselves to be quite the talent evaluators.

I want Gano brought back ASAFP, at least until someone truly better comes along.

I never liked that we gave up on Gano, while crappy blocking and Danny Smith were just as much the problem. Gano improved statistically each year, while the ST talent/coaching stayed roughly the same. He was no/not much worse in his time here than any of the 5 best kickers in history were thru the same periods in their careers.

It's sad when your kickers effective range is 50 yards or less... I was saying to my wife as I was pacing around the room on that last kick, if he misses this and I was Shananhan I'd be telling him don't even bother coming back to the team plane, find your own ride home youre cut.

I really hope we consider bringing someone else in this week. Hell even Gano at least gave us a chance of making a field goal of 50+, I just cringe at that distance with Cundiff. I just don't understand how a guy with the leg to boom it out of the endzone every time on kick offs has no range on field goals.

Cundiff is horrible. I didn't think there could be a kicker out there who I had less faith in than Graham Gano, but there he is.

I'm still wondering why we let Rackers go.

I was mad when we cut Gano (basically over a bunch of blocks). We're not cutting Sav Rocca over the blocked punts. I will say that I was always nervous with Gano in the clutch FG department, but I'm still nervous with Cundiff in that department. I mean, that's part of the reason why Baltimore cut him.

I held my breath on that last field goal. It was too close for comfort. Cundiff is horrible Period. He lost to a rookie and got cut by the Ravens. Those bringing up Cundiff's touchbacks? The Ravens apparently thought the ability to kick field goals and add points when your offense gives you that opportunity is more important. He also got cut by the Pukes. Yet another team that preferred points over touchbacks.

I didn't like letting Gano go and we need to bring him back now. I'll trust him lining up for field goals over Cundiff and I'll trust our coverage team enough to get down the field. Those naking excuses for Cundiff aren't being very realistic. He's a kicker and he's got one job to do. He literally, single-handedly, under the circumstances nearly cost this team the game and do you really feel comfortable going forward with him? I don't.

The San Diego Chargers signed Nick Novak over Graham Gano last week. However, Norval Turner is the head coach so every roster move San Diego makes should be taken with a grain of salt.
