Mike D'Antoni is a good coach. Give him talent and he can make things happen.
I admit that when I first heard this this morning, I just about fell out of my chair, but the more that I think about it, the more I can understand why they would make this move, at least from a long term perspective.
Mike D'Antoni was one Robert Horry cheapshot away from taking PHX to the Finals and most likely winning it all.
you do realize that that was the first round of the playoffs?
not only that but they went from being the #1 seed in the west, to trading for Shaq and dropping to the 5th seed. What does that mean? No the hell they were not close to making the finals.
_'Antoni dont worry about defense, dont worry about scoring in the post, he dont care about anything of that stuff. There is a good chance this could be a disaster, but then again it already is for them.
no, it was the first round

and they would have played New Orleans.
So I was wrong, the Suns fell from a first seed to the 6th seed after the Shaq trade.
Nope. You're wrong.

indeed I was, lol. My bad
I thought it was the 07/08 season
The Suns ended up winning that game 4 tho. I dont believe it had anything to do with Nash being hip checked.
They lost in 2007 because they had no answer for Tim Duncan. Those Suns teams were never going to win a title. You cannot win a title without an emphasis on defense.
Phil Jackson is too old to coach. If they had brought him in, it would have been a short term thing I bet.
I don't understand why the choices had to be between him and D'Antoni though. Why do you have to get a big name coach?
Why not go for a hungry young guy who made is bones as an assistant with a mentorship from a great coach? It's worked for Chicago with Thibs and for Miami with Spo. They should have been looking for the next one of those guys. Maybe poach someone from San Antonio who studied under Poppovich.

I still think Brian Shaw should have be given the job a year ago.
I don't know how that would work when the season is already underway though. Then you have to manage all of the egos on the team as well. I think it would only work (from that perspective) with a guy who's been around the block a few times. Whether or not D'Antoni was the right guy for the job systematically, is debatable, but I don't know how things would work with a "fresh face," right now.
