$250k fine . . . wow. Stern is a joke. This is what happens when you let a 70 year old run a billion dollar industry.
Bill Barnwell @billbarnwell
Per David Stern's fine structure, benching your stars is 2.5 times worse than calling someone a homophobic epithet on national TV.

What a dick
But it was done as a strategy. It doesn't matter if it is November or April. These coaches have to do what they have to do to win games and championships.
Pops put his team in the position to win the ultimate game. It's a freakin 82 game season and these bammas balled year round because of the Olympics.
Can't beileve people are making a big deal out of this.
Gone, but not forgotten... RIP RP
Wizards fans should sue David Stern. Had teams been required to play their star players like he now says, there would never have been a winning streak to end the season and Wittman/Grunfeld might have been fired. Think how this new found policy might have helped our suffering.
Stern was going to fine the Wizards 250K for their starting five tonight until he realized that was their starting five lolz

Yeah this is a sign he's lost it. It's time for him to go. The NBA has an entertaining brand. It's time for them to dramatically increase their level of professionalism. And that was never going to happen under Stern. He's an unprofessional WWE clown who feeds off controversy and is certainly not above making himself bigger than the game.
He's a sleaze bag. He's done an enormous amount of good for the league as commissioner but he has always been and always will be a sleazy cheat. And he doesn't even care to hide it. The NBA could stand to be taken more seriously.

Jeff Van Gundy is ranting about the Spurs fine while he's supposed to be announcing the Lakers Nuggets game. He's not happy with the leagues decision.
Have you played sports? Do you know what the wear and tear of a season can do to you, especially of you're older like Duncan and Parker? Regular rest is necessary during the season to keep you fresh. You can't just play hard, make the playoffs and then rest for a few games. It just doesn't work like that, and the body can't take it.
I'm on the Spurs side on this thing. However, just wanted to point out a flaw in your comment. Duncan and Parker, I get the old thing. But Popovich also sat out Danny Green, who's what, 25?
This is as much about sticking it to Stern as it is about resting his key guys. In fact, I'd say he did it mostly because of the scheduling. I definitely believe Popovich when he said he knew he was gonna do this in July. And again, I don't blame him.
