Had a Samsung Android phone for a while. Was a cool phone, but did crash here and there. Also slowed down significantly throughout it's ownership. Didn't really have any major complaints though.

I think there are benefits to both Macs and PCS (iPhone, Android). I recently switched to the iPhone 4 and love it. I'm not living on my phone and don't really care about a gigantic screen...

Sure, 4G would be cool...but BFD. WiFi is pretty much everywhere nowadays. I dig the Iphone layout more...that pretty much seals it for me.

I agree with chipwhich though that we are headed towards a Mac vs. PC future. Android will continue to be a much larger market than iOS, and certain manufacturers (Samsung today is like Gateway or Compaq or Dell of the PC boom) may outsell Apple, but Apple will still keep a good market share and a healthy profit.
Well - While I dont really disagree with any of that - lets make sure we keep to the same facts.
iPhones probably will outsell Galaxy s this qtr - but I don't think they will get a bigger market share. I think a large majority of those that purchase a iPhone 5 will be those that upgraded from a earlier model iPhone. Market share will stay about the same.

And you may be right on PC's..but keep in mind that on PC market share, Apple is 3rd (Behind HP and Dell).

anyway - My point is still the same. Apple is a great company that will maintain a big market share in the phone world - but they are no longer the industry leader in smart phones.

For me personally it's photo editing apps and a few games. Most I know aren't on android and I've spent a good amount of money on them.

"It turns out that although Android owns more than 50% of total smartphone market share, developers have, thus far, been reluctant to flock to the Android platform with their apps. In fact, there are more than 4 times as many iOS developers as there are Android developers. Why, you may ask? Quite simply, developers have long known that Apple device owners are closely locked into the Apple ecosystem, with credit cards on file. Many a study has been done, and the results are unanimous – Apple device owners are more willing to pay for apps. That being said, there are many apps in the Google Play Store that are also on Apple’s App Store – but are free, or ad supported."

Thats my point. A guy who works for me has a iphone and at times he shows me a app that is cool that he paid for, and then I find the same app for free on the play store.

The Push ads are annoying - BUT - for anyone that has a Android. Download Ad Network Detector! It scans all your apps and shows you which ones have the push ads. The BEST part about it, is for some of them you can opt out of the ads, while keeping the app.

Yeah developers are going to Apple because they know the sheep on there will pay for anything.

Hate the name iPhone 5. Have had people asking me about it since the 4S came out. It's lame because it is the 6th phone. Oh well. The phone is absolutely gorgeous though. The biggest feature that I am excited for is LTE. The problem though, is that the carrier rate plans are pretty lame in terms of selection and price. I am interested to hear the audio improvements on calls as well. Should be interesting to see how well the Gorilla glass 2 holds up, too. iOS 6 has some nice improvements also. Some friends that have been using the beta love it and really like the new maps applications. Passbook is also a feature I am looking forward to but I think the biggest hurdle Apple has to overcome with that feature is acceptance. If I go to some rinky dink club for a concert, will they actually take my ticketmaster ticket via passbook or will I have to have a physical ticket? Some questions remain, I suppose. Overall, I think the phone is a really solid looking product and should be a joy to use.

I have never heard anyone or seen anyone complain about the speed of the iPhone processor ever, even if it's a few u can't make everyone happy.

Now if your saying Internet speed 4G vs 3G then yes its completely understandable. But iPhone runs circles around games, applications or whatever.

Not everything should be free and/or ad supported. Developers have to make a living too and should be allowed to charge whatever they feel is a reasonable price for an app. If you don't like the price, don't buy it and find something else that you like/can afford/see value in.

I'm on one now. and YES it is. Honestly, it feels like something out of a sci fi movie.

Between the i7 processor and the solid state drive (rather than a conventional HD) it is the fastest machine I have ever used. It boots in two seconds flat. It handles my biggest files like they were tiny gifs. and opens and saves huge files as fast as you can click. But the real leap is in industrial design (simply elegant) and the retina display. Trust me. I would never have believed it until now but if you use the retina display (3 million more pixels than an HDTV) once, everything else will look like crap. For a photographer/graphic designer it's like opening a whole new world. I predict that within 5 years all computers will be using some form of retina display.

Unfortunately with bleeding edge tech there are also problems... In this case with that same display. And that problem is LG produced screens. Some are sourced from LG some from Samsung. Those produced from LG (I hate the company - their quality is crap) have a problem with ghosting images. In other words, high contrast images remain ghosted on screen for a few minutes after the window is closed. Often, it's not noticeable at all. Other times its a glaring distraction. And for the first time in my life, I'm sending it in for repair/ replacement after only a few weeks of ownership.

That's an awful lot to go through to do something that can be done with a simple app download on Android

I think both of you are wrong (or out-of-date). The FCC has required Verizon to provide 4G tethering at no extra charge, so the iPhone 5 (and Samsung Galaxy SIII and other new 4G phones) should have tethering pre-installed now with no app download required.

That's what makes the iPhone better imo, the apps you can actually run on the device. If they released the IOS to multiple phone makers like they do with android and then you compared two phones running off IOS, then that would make more sense to me, but any android phone to an iphone is apples and oranges in my eyes.
I've always had a problem with the "this mobile operating system has access to more apps than the others so it must be better" argument. I've had an iPhone 4 for over 2 years now and I would say that 95% (if not more) of the apps in the app store are garbage. They're not even worth downloading even though they're free. I have something like 40 or so apps on my phone right now, but I only use about five of them on a regular basis (if that). These are the Facebook, Yelp, Shaza, etc. that are available on every platform. Apple had a big advantage with their app store when the iPhone first came out, but now you can pretty much get anything you want for any platform.

Not saying they shouldn't make money, by why would I pay a $1 for an app when I can get the same thing for free with a few ads?
