I thinkhe's who's left on the bench.
So when we note the Steve Smith play, we'll also note that Wilson has him blanketed. he's as close to him without interfering as can be.
But he's the only one there.
No safety.. no one over the top.
Which means the safeties are elsewhere double covering someone else. (we assume.. it is Reed Doughty.. and as we all know his idea of coverage is to be in the same zip code as the offense, and Madieu Williams, who's ide a of double coverage seems to be the chocolate cookie surrounding an Oreo. (The linebackers... They couldn't cover a corpse with a sheet.)
And when a QB sees that, he'll always go to the single coverage, which always favors the offense if the ball is catchable, especially given the rules and predelection to throw PI flags.
The entire defense is either
A/ terrible at coverage, or
B/ completely out of position to properly cover anyone.
Considering we've seen good coverage out of Wilson before, and the fact that 90% of all CBs who have ever played will not survive on an island all day long, it would seem to be a combination of
A/ an incompetent defensive scheme
B/ incompetent defenders necessitating a scheme that won't work. (and i'm looking directly t those safeties. They're RARELY where they need to be to make any play at all. And I'm looking at the linebackers, who give up EVERY underneath pass that is thrown. The only reason a ball drops is if the rceiver drops it or the QB makes a bad throw.. youre not seeing passes being defended.)
