I will say this: I'm not sure why we didn't utilize more of the stretch play in the game. But I digress. We won. There is always room for improvement in a win or a loss, and as a coach I always self analyze and nit pick things either way. Kyle should be doing the same. But at the same time, as a coach (granted, no where NEAR the level of competence or competition that our coaches are at) its important to be self critical and strive for improvement but at the same time ENJOY the victory. Be critical in the morning

I'm the opposite. I was thinking that I was seriously getting tired of hearing "Pitch to Morris. And he's hit in the backfield."

The problem was the pitch. We used that but didn't see much of the inside cut back on the pitch. We should have utilized the traditional stretch more often from under center.

I'd be really happy about the way our team played, if it wasn't for the constant 3rd and long conversions by _______ team.

    Oh...and the penalties too

I'm thinking Morris needed to run more right off the end of the tackle or between the guard and tackle instead of trying to swing out towards the sideline

Agreed, but that doesn't mean they're beyond criticism, especially on things which were clearly issues. Don't forget, this is the PO'd thread.

We'll need to find adequate depth in the offseason given his clear injury concerns, but I think there's legitimate hope he can be an answer at strong safety

Not really a knee jerk reaction but definitely concerned about the continued rash of penalties the Skins are committing. Shanahan talked about that being a point of emphasis during the bye week yet the Skins were even worse than usual today. Worst part is many of the penalties are unforced errors such as false starts, illegal motion, offsides and more that reflect an undisciplined and poorly prepared team.

To see the Skins have two weeks to work on these penalty issues then come out today with a horrid 13 more is definitely a problem...

The draft has a good amount of mid to late round SS types that can be good depth behind a guy like Merriweather. One guy I really like is Shamarko Thomas from Syracuse

Yeah, what did we have, like 8 False Start penalties? Most of them against our OL? (And at least one each on RG3 and Morris.)

    At home?

This was a really weird game and we didn't dominate as much as the score would indicate. One TD came off a TO that advanced the ball inside the ten, two more came off big plays. That's 21 points. Some fool's gold out on the field today. We basically played well on offense for two-three plays, a few more if you count RG3 making something out of nothing via sheer absurd talent. The rest of the time we were committing false starts or getting zero or negative yardage on first down. I'm thrilled with the win, but we won't be able to go on a run if the offense continues to play this way. Pass protection was also suspect and the WRs weren't getting open.

Well the good news is, those are the types of games you want to win, so at least you have a silver lining as you go back to the drawing board.

That is true--sometimes you have to win ugly. Not all of our wins during the 2005 run were pretty too.
