Thread: Surprised At Defenses Stacking The Box On RG3?

Default Surprised At Defenses Stacking The Box On RG3?

Here's the thing, we've put up 68 points in two weeks, so, I'm not sure if I hate it, BUT... for a guy who has a vicious arm, and can extend pockets horizontally, I am surprised that teams still play against the run. Of course, the other benefit is to put pressure on RG3, and I believe we haven't taken full advantage.

We've seen one deep play to Hankerson and another that was botched by the receiver. I'd like to see us go to the deep ball more often, and makes these line-crowding defenses pay!

I think what you've said regarding getting pressure on RG3 is what our opponents have been going with. Our offense now has a real triple threat (pass, run, and mobile QB), so they have to pick their poison. I guess they're going with the gameplan of getting pressure on RG3 as soon as they can to force him into a quick decision (and hopefully a mistake) rather than allow him time to pick them apart at his leisure, because he is blazingly fast.

Between a weak O line and a rookie QB it makes sense. After a few more games we may see a shift in defensive scheme playing against the Skins.

We were missing Garcon last week, so stacking the box made some sense. We still burned them big once with Hank and almost a 2nd time with Robinson. If teams do that once Garcon is back in the lineup, we are going to burn them quite a bit.

I'm ok with it for now. Teams know Grudge can burn them w/ jus feet but they also know he'll hang in there until the last minute trying to make the play. Once our WR corp as a whole gets it together the threat will be too much.

I read a stat on here somewhere that had Griff at or almost at perfect QB rating when he has been blitzed. If that's true I expect to see a lot less of it soon.

RG3 didn't lose the game - he's the reason we were in it until the Morgan penalty. So, frankly, I'm not all that concerned about teams stacking the box against him. Let them do it. We'll see alot more play action roll out/boot leg with intermediate patterns run by the TEs or WRs.

Echoing a few here, I also agree that they can stack all they want. RG3 can fake a run himself, or use PA to beat the coverage with Garcon, Robinson or heck even clown hands Hankerson. We are in for a great wild ride on the offense this year.

It might even reach the level of Spurrier's preseason run !

I think we start sending some bombs week 3 if Garcon is healthy.
