I do not know if we can realistically expect much of anything if we continue to be the most penalized team in the NFL, and if we continue to give up an average of 429 yards and 33 points per game.

The press asked a Redskins executive about the salary cap penalty and the executive responded, "Ask John Mara." So the press asked Mara and he said, “What they did was in violation of the spirit of the salary cap. "
Oh I see now, even though there was no actual salary cap in 2010 according to the CBA, the "spirit" of the salary cap still existed. Thanks for clearing that up Mara.
I'm sorry. It is not realistic for the defense to fall off the cliff in the way it has. It's in freefall with largely the same group playing. You would have thought that group would either get a little better, stay the same, or get a little worse. Not regress to infancy.
What we're seeing out there is not realistic or reasonable in any fashion. If what we were seeing from the D came from the O side with the oline we have, a rookie qb, and a rookie rb I'd agree that we're being ridiculous, but it's the vet part of our team that is playing and being coached in a clueless fashion.
i had full expectations of the team starting off sluggish, but that was on the offensive side; the defense has all but disappeared from last year. Granted, they were not a special group, but they kept us in alot of winnable situations last year, only to have Grossman give em away.
Something's not right on the defensive side; its obvious. Accountability needs to rear its ugly head, and for the most part this falls on coaching. Morris was hired to improve the secondary; it is horrible. Haslett is not scheming the opponents and their strong suits, players are out of position, and now the message is out; when playing the Redskins, pass pass pass is the theme.
Other DC s on other teams seem to go to a team and have immediate impact and improvement; Haslett has done the opposite, and has done this on every team he's been a part of. At what point do the Redskins say enough is enough and do something about it? The time is now; nothing to lose, except a horrible DC...

I didn't think the defense would be THIS bad. The thought the offense would be very good and this team would be able to win 9 or 10 games. The Redskins have let their secondary become a complete joke.
I understand the point of this thread and yes, I'm not surprised we're 1-2 right now. Looking at the schedule before the season I didn't, realistically, expect any better. What's frustrating is that while Robert Griffin III has been everything we hoped and for the most part not looked like a rookie, I think we all expected much more from our defense. We really don't even need a great defense but this D has been abysmal. I think it's safe to say if we had a defense like last year (ranked 13th) we could be 3-0 right now. Our offense is better than expected but our defense is much worse. I know the secondary was a concern coming into the season but anyone who claims they expected them to be this bad is lying.
RGIII's the real deal. I love the kid, everything about him. One of the top players in the NFL right now without a doubt and he makes the Skins exciting to watch. Skins haven't been exciting to watch for years,....decades really. However,....
I'm seeing some disturbing trends,...as I'm sure everyone is seeing. The defense is just plain bad right now -- tackling is bad and they cannot cover. I just don't see this getting any better and they've not even come to the meat of the schedule yet.
RGIII is taking entirely too many hits. It's good to have him as a run threat if they're able to play off that and make passing plays down the field, but it seems they're not even doing that. The option has to go,...or at least been used very sparingly moving forward for he's not going to last past week 8-9. One of the priorities has to be to lessen the amount of hits Robert takes. He's far too valuable to the franchise moving forward.
With the injury to Trent we're really starting to see how poor the O-line is,..and the lack of quality depth. Again, protecting Robert most important.
I know they've had key injuries which has not helped. I predicted 7-9 before the year,....that's looking a lot more difficult to achieve as weeks go on if the defense does not improve.
I don't care. I felt we were still in this game until that failure to go for it on 4th and 1. I care about this team, even if they've let us down twice. Now let's beat the bucs!
Reality check the offense isnt as good as people think it is. Remember we been playing defenses as bad as ours! ok the Rams might be alittle better but still below avg. The running game has been good, due to having a running QB. The passing game is average at best guys. We might rate in the top 5 of offense right now, that will drop when we start playing against better defenses.
I still had mediocre expectations this season but, the bottom line is we should be 3-0 right now. All of these games were winnable and we blew it on defense. When our offense is scoring 30 points a game you you gotta make some stops.
I still think we are a 6-10 7-9 team but we should not have lost any of those games.

Well, I had us at 5-11/ 6-10 for the year, and 1-2 at this stage.
So I guess I'm bang on track, even if it's the opposite to what I thought. (I had us loosing the first two, then beating the Bengals.).
Hail.

your right about the secondary, they have gone from bad to worst..and the rest of the d is a year older and slower, which to me they haven't been as good as their stats indicate(the past few years, that is),and i guess you could say its all catching up to them now, this team has been awful for 20 years, its not going to change over nite, but until they learn how to win, they will stay like they are now, bottom 3rd of the league.. and i thought they would go 4-12 this year. and regrettably its looking like a good call... shhh... did you hear that? it was the bottom falling out
