Before the season a lot of Redskin fans were worried that the hype was growing too quickly. If you turned on the TV at any hour of the day you were likely greeted by a smiling RG3 running around pushing Adidas or bland sandwiches. This man who hadnt thrown a single pass in the NFL had grown men looking at their sock drawer dismayed over the lack of color and capes.
While the RG3 tour was taking place word was that Luck had no time for such exposure. He wanted to earn lucrative deals with his play or some other such overly serious statement that was generally perceived to be more in line with the ideal stoic football field general stereotype. Plus, hes like 2 inches taller and stuff.
In Seattle the little QB that could was telling anyone that would listen that he deserved to start in the NFL. They laughed and laughed but he just kept chugging along and in the end he did earn the starting spot. Moral of the story is that back up QB in Seattle has now topped the list of best job ever.
Also something about Weeden being old and Tannehill having a hot wife in South Beach (Man plans, God laughs).
After a quarter of the season the stats are in and what they say is surprising:
QB Rating
Name - NFL Rank Rating
RG3 4th 103.2
Luck 24th 75.4
Wilson 27th 73.5
Tannehill 31st 66.4
Weeden 32nd 60.4
Completion Percentage
RG3 2nd 69.4%
Wilson 21st 60%
Tannehill 27th 55.9%
Weeden 30th 53.9%
Luck 31st 53.3%
Yards per Attempt:
RG3 3rd 8.6
Tannehill 16th 7.3
Luck 21st 6.9
Weeden 30th 6.0
Wilson 31st 5.9
This last stat will be seen as a bit of cherry pick on my part because I wanted some way to look at TDs and turnovers in a way that takes into account QBs mobility as well as their passing. So Ive taken total touchdowns and turnovers and added subtracted the bad from the good:
Touchdowns to Turnovers
(Passing TD + Rushing TD) - (Interceptions +Lost Fumbles)
RG3: (4+4)-(1+1)=+6
Luck: (5+0)-(4+1)=0
Wilson: (4+0)-(4+1)= -1 we all know this one should be worse. Mmm-hmmm
Weeden: (3+0)-(7+0)= -4
Tannehill : (2+1)-(6+1)=-4
So there you have it skins fans. After a quarter of the season you have a QB that has clearly out performed even the high expectations of the media and delirious fans. Has this towns luck finally turned? The Redskins have a franchise QB, The Nats are division winners, the Caps are playoff staples, and the Wizards ok I went one team too far, point is this town and this football team has a lot to feel good about. Enjoy it.
HTTR.
