Default Press Release: WASHINGTON REDSKINS ENDORSE QUESTION 7

    PRESS RELEASE

    For Immediate Release

    October 2, 2012

    WASHINGTON REDSKINS ENDORSE QUESTION 7

“Question 7 will create thousands of good-paying jobs, (and) increase funding for public schools...”

LANDOVER, Md. – Today, the Washington Redskins joined county officials, labor organizations and business leaders in supporting Question 7, a ballot initiative that would bring thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in revenue to Maryland. The announcement is the latest in a large and growing coalition of support for Question 7.

“The Washington Redskins organization is proud to join with elected officials and our business partners in Maryland to endorse Ballot Question 7,” said Dennis Greene, President of Business Operations. “As members of the Prince George’s County business community, we see it as our obligation to speak out in support of major economic development initiatives. We believe Question 7 represents a tremendous opportunity for Prince George’s County and all of Maryland to create thousands of good-paying jobs, increase funding for public schools, and help provide dollars for other critical state and local government services.

“We urge all of our fans to join the Washington Redskins organization in supporting Question 7 on Election Day.”

Supporting Question 7 on the ballot this November would create 2,000 new construction jobs1, 4,000 permanent jobs at the new resort casino2, 4,400 additional permanent jobs associated with the development3, and 1,600 new jobs from the introduction of table games at all Maryland casinos4. Question 7 will also help recapture the estimated $550 Million a year that Marylanders currently spend at out of state casinos5.

A professional sports team endorsing politics in any way is a slippery slope. Not to mention they are dead wrong on this issue. Am I the only one that has a serious problem with the skins taking sides on this one, regardless of their position?

Isn't there some sort of conflict with a sports team endorsing casino building?

Hmmmm...Danny ot plans on a casino?

It won't be long until we're all Nevada. BTW, hat money doesn't stay in state, there are a couple key casino corps he money goes to them. What the states want is the tax revenue, and they ALWAYS say it will help schools....it NEVER does.

We deal with the same stuff here in Kentucky every year.

I'm torn between giving people who can afford it an opportunity to give away their money and giving people who cannot afford an opportunity to give away their money.

The lottery has much worse odds than many casino table games and lotteries target the poor. I don't think this is as much about the gambling as it is the Redskins involvement in promoting gambling.

Yeah i'm also curious why you think the Skins are "dead wrong" on this LMB. I'm not a Maryland guy so I haven't paid much attention to the issue. What an I missing?

I've always been for casino development...whatever lowers taxes, and I'm all for choice.

However it's sad...the more you think about it, look around these casino towns. They are dumps. They are filled with people who really shouldn't be gambling. When you go into a Chester casino or Reno casino....it's like...desperation and misfortune all around you. It's terrible.

There's truth to this, and frankly, one of the reasons I'd hate to see a casino or two go into National Harbor. I really like spending time there, I'd hate to see it start to resemble off-strip Atlantic City.
