The Redskins have more than enough on defense to get pressure on the QB. The only problem is Jim Haslett. He doesn't create any new blitzes PERIOD. It seems that the only blitz he has is that stupid delayed linebacker blitz. Hell Jim isn't even smart enough to put any defensive line stunts in. Trust me if we had someone that had a creative mind rather than an aging defensive coordinator that has allowed football to pass him by this wouldn't even be a issue. I have seen no Safety Blitzes, no stunts nothing other than the supposed all out blitz he called against the Cowboys that didn't work and that delayed LB blitz. Other than that I have seen no other blitzes. Supposedly prior to Orakpo going out there was a story of Kerrigan and Orakpo switching positions like that was going to really cause a problem we need a DC who will create some different blitzes call and create some lineman stunts.

Before the trade in last years draft they were in position to draft JJ Watt, they traded with Jacksonville and ended up drafting Ryan Kerrigan and Jarvis Jenkins instead. I wonder what would have been better for them. I love Kerrigan's play and hope that Jenkins gets better but Watt is having a monster year as a 3-4 DE. I'm not sure which would have been better for the Redkins. If they had drafted Watt they would have there DE pass rusher for years to come but they would still be weak at OLB. Also I know that Wade Phillips is 5X the DC that Haslett is so I'm sure that has something to do with Watt's play also, if the Texans had drafted Kerrigan he would propably be the one with 7.5sacks this year.

It's all about the DC here, I remember when Wade Phillips was fired last year, I felt they should have brought him in to be the defensive consultant, (then eventually DC assistant HC) in terms of the 3-4 in the NFL he would be one of the top coaches for it, and he was there for the pickings and the FO didnt make a pitch for him.

Only problem I see now is, if we fire Haslett, (which is a necessity) who will be able to run the 3-4 as dc?...Should we look to bring back Lou Spanos as the DC?

It's simple really. The reason we are getting little pressure this year.

First and foremost we lack a true nose tackle. While Cofield is good against the run he is not a block eating, pocket collapsing NT that we require. Pressure in the 3-4 starts up front with the three down linemen. Period.

Secondly. Injuries to Orakpo and Carriker have limited our options. Carriker is an excellent end in our system and without his experience and strength up front it hurts.

All the people hating on Orakpo seem to still be clueless as to just how much our defensive pressure relies on him. He may not be a first ballot hall of famer like most on here want but he is definitely a top tier pass rusher. Many teams would KILL to have him. He constantly demands double teams and chip blocks that free up guys like Kerrigan, Riley etc. The myth that he is injury prone is another ridiculous fallacy. This peck injury has really been his only major problem but given time he will be fine. People on here are too quick to want to cut ties with one of our best young defensive players and its stupid. He has improved his run defense, his coverage as well. Add in his ability to get to the QB and his loss was the single biggest blow to our pass rush. Plain and simple. When his contract is up Bruce needs to do everything in his power to keep him.

Kerrigan and Orakpo compliment each other greatly. Ryan is probably the better overall backer but I think people discount just how much Rak has improved in coverage and run support. To claim he is average is just ignorant and shows how little the people who say this know. I'm sure glad you people don't run our team. It would be in shambles.

Are there any LB free agents next year that can cover?

One more thing, has anyone else noticed Alexander outrunning nearly everyone on ST? With his size and speed how can we not devise a scheme to get him free on a speed rush? I don't see many OT's being as fast as him. I mean, atleast situationally.

    What say you ES?
109 posts, I even repeated the above question, and no one took a shot at answering it. That being said, I'm convinced Shanny reads ES and took note of my assesment of Zo's speed and size! So I'm taking 100% of the credit for his monster game! INT, sacks, pressures, tackles for losses; dude is a stone cold beast!!!! LOL! HTTR!
