Thread: All thoughts are not threads: Jaws on RGIII, your opinion

Well, I have no clue where he deserves to be since I'm not smart enough to know to whom to attribute all the success we've had. I know that Griffin is playing very well and has done a great job. What I don't know is if the scheme is responsible for some of it. One thing I know Jaworski loves about QBs is when they manage the game from the LOS. To this point, outside of the drive where Griffin's headset went out, I don't think he's been asked to shoulder a lot of that so I can see why Jaws wouldn't have him near the very top.

In the end, I don't care one bit about the ranking as I love where we stand at the QB position.
"Washington strolled to the NFC championship, outscoring their two playoff opponents by a combined total of 48 points. Their domination was more than impressive, it was historic. The 1991 Redskins boasted the largest average margin of victory among all Super Bowl champions."

in context of including past career performances... Jaws gave a fair assessment.

It would be interested in Jaws would do an additional ranking of the best QBs RIGHT NOW. I think there will be some shuffling going on...

I had this conversation with one of my co-coaches yesterday. We called it arguably top ten, with a high of 6 and a low of 11.

The QBs we had in the discussion were Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning (x2), Roethlisberger, Schaub, Ryan, Stafford, and Newton. I gave him a wide berth for Schaub, Stafford, and Schaub.

Yeah but his TD passes may not increase that much because of their propensity to have him run in the red zone--where he is such a threat. So if he finished with something like 16 passing TD's and 16 rushing TD's I'd say that'd be a pretty damn good year.

Griffin is 4th in Passer rating 11th in QBR 13/14th in DVOA/DYAR
19th in Rushing (not for QBs but in the league!) #1 in QB Rushing with 16 1st Downs and 4 TDs

I try to remain as objective as possible but Griffin is playing out of his skull right now and if I had to give it a number I honestly would be hard pressed to imagine a QB doing more for his team then Griffin is for the Skins.

i agree. he has put the team on his back every game, and has gotten us in position to win each game. he might be missing the high passing td numbers, but that is made up for with his rushing threat and low turnover margin.

yeah, he's a rookie, but his poise and toughness has been incredible. he's playing lights out as of now.

Yeah I think you hit it on the head here, its not an assessment of 2012 quarterbacks, its quarterbacks in general, taking into account their total body (career) of work. Obviously if were just about 2012 performance, Griffin would easily be in the top 5.

For everyone mentioning that he needs to improve passing a bit before we can consider him top 5, the problem is, that's not what the question posed to Jaws was. It was simply who are the best QBs right now according to the OP. In that case, how ANYONE can have the audacity to not put RG3 in the top 5 is outrageous. Was the question who are the best passers? Even so, he's top ten there. But QB in general? Top five right now.

    *Edit*
Wait... so Jaws was including past performances? Grrrr, this thread should be locked if that was the case. Definitely misleading, OP. I take back what I just said here.

    I agree. Is that insane??

Yeah, I see that now. That's not how it was presented on the radio. That definitely makes more sense.

I think that he's making very poor 3rd and long decisions which is hurting the skins. When the skins get into 3rd and long either the play calling is poor or the performance suffers.. If it's the latter then maybe he's a top 10-15 QB right now.

Wait, so you're gonna dismiss all the other areas where Griffin and the offense are killin it, but focus on the one area where the offense is average?

btw-the offense 3rd down struggles pre-date Griffin, imo its more a Kyle issue then a Griffin issue and if the object is to score points and gain yards and the offense is 3rd/4th in those areas low 3rd down efficiency becomes less meaningful

Maybe if Roberts stock gets real high we could re-coup a couple 3rd rounders or maybe even a 2nd rounder to make up for those 1sts we traded away.......

It so comforting that we have a proven Super BOwl Winning QB waiting in the wings in case the rookie stumbles in the form of Rex.
If Rex were starting JAWS would probably rank him higher.

    I kid, I kid..... : )
Shocking. If i missed the sarcasm in this post i apologize and i will restrain from what id like to say, but this kind of thought just drives me crazy. The absolute LAST thought on my mind is trading Robert for picks.

Ah ok good. Anyways when i mentioned in another thread that it was pretty much of foregone conclusion that Robert won rookie of the month and a poster chimed in saying that Billick and someone else on the NFL network didn't even give him a look when talking about it on NFL network. Oh well rankings dont mean anything, we all see what we have on the field.

No, that's completely backwards. I heard it on the radio, and he was talking about quarterbacks as of right now.

ugh, i was listening to ESPn radio yesterday, and they were going around the league talking about Tony Romo and what teams would want him. Of course they come to the Redskins, and the dude was like "oh yeah, I'd take Romo over RG3 right now." Seriously bro!? I flipped the **** out and called into the station hoping to get on the radio and go down all of RG3's stats right now compared to Romo's but I coulnd't get through.

Not like it's anything new, but I'm constantly reminded that this nationwide talk show hosts don't do any research on any teams outside the big name teams like Dallas and Green Bay and get all their information on teams like the Redskins from ESPN snippets.
