All the rap groups being posted shouldn't be. I don't know what's on them, wouldn't know them if I've heard them and I doubt your parents would either. I could post Legacy of Brutality, In God Inc, I don't want to grow up, Out of Step or Wasted, but the only "MOST famous that might come from that genera is London Calling or Bullocks.
I'd probably say excluding Thriller or Bad or whatever that album was from MJ, that the top four would be classic rock, like Dark side, Abby Road etc.
When I was a kid I listened to Tarkus because the album cover was super cool and Steppenwolf too, because I liked wolves. Same with Cosmos Factory, which I thought was a band name until I stumbled upon the CD years later in a used bin. Of course at that age, Sounds of the Humpback and PacMan Fever were all the rage.

no disrespect, but your music view is limited if you dont think an album cover like What's Going On is a classic cover (and that is what this thread is about, not the music), or cant recall the cover of Michael Jackson's Thriller off the top of your head. For instance, no one thought to put up the 2nd largest selling album in US history, The Eagles Greatest Hits, or AC/DC's Back in Black, and many others that have sold a lot) because the cover is apparently not famous to the Extreme Skins faithful. The point of this thread were famous album covers. A lot of these rap music covers are very famous and well known, just like a lot of pop music covers, and rock. I have never heard the London's Calling by The Clash, but I know the album cover.
Whipped Cream and Other Delights my parents had and I still have it somewhere.
Could someone post the Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin - Cheap Thrills? I still don't have the posting photo thing down.
Also, Rubber Soul and Revolver by the Beatles too. Then Play On by Fleetwood Mac
I'll think of more. The 60's and 70's had the best album covers.
I agree with most of what you've said, but rap is just to new of a genre to get "all time" cred. I don't know what the front of straight out of compton looks like. If any rap album might hit all time, I'd say Nation of Millions, but these newer guys? No chance.
Granted, in the time before CDs, when it all happened on an album, the art work was very important. I think that time is back again.
The first time I knew the art work on a CD, but didn't like the band was the inside of a GnR cassette I think. It was a Robert Williams painting and I love that guys work.
