Please explain what was significant about that date?

As Henry mentioned, the 35-34 game in 1979 that (combined with a lopsided victory by the Bears over the Cardinals earlier that day) kept us from winning the division and out of the playoffs likely remains the most devastating Skins loss of all time to longtime fans.

I'd have to say the 1984 divisional loss to the Bears was disappointing in a certain way. Granted, Chicago was an up-and-coming team and would steamroll the league the next season. However, that was the only playoff loss we ever suffered at RFK and that it meant that we wouldn't be going back to the Super Bowl that season after two straight appearances was a bit depressing at the time.

The 17-0 loss to the Giants in the NFCCG following the 1986 season was likely less so because they had beaten us twice already and the game was at their place.

I'd say this one for me too. I still cringe with the thought of Marcus Allen's touchdown run or Jack Squirek intercepting Joey T. If the 'Skins had one that game the "dynasty" word would have been more easily attached.

Well, it's probably just me but that was a game we should have won. After a terrible start we were finally starting to put together a classic Gibbs december run. We had won 2 of our previous 3 games, including a dominating win over the Giants, and we were starting to finally look like a different team than the one that had been dominated by the NFC East for the past 5 years. We had the Cowboys on the ropes, 4th and 10 and then on their last gasp Vinnie Testeverde hit Patrick Crayton for a TD. Had we won that game we would have gone 7-9, winning 4 of our last 5. Had we won that game, we would have gotten the Dallas Monkey off our backs and we could safely say that Gibbs had returned and things were different. Instead, another Dallas sweep. 6-10. Same old Redskins.

I don't know. That one still sits with me. But like I said it's probably just me.

To this day all I have to post is '34-35' and Redskin fans know what I'm talking about. 33 years later. That alone should tell you all you need to know about that game.

surprised to read a thread title like this considering optimism is relatively high at the moment.

We've won only 1 turkey day game (Detroit) since 1968... and the other 6 losses were all to the Cowboys. If we could win it this time, that'll make up for it.

OK, but you had the wrong year. That was 2004, Gibbs' first year, when the Vinny-to-Crayton TD occurred. Yeah, even though that was pretty much a lost season by that time, I still remember being really pissed when that play occurred.

Without a doubt Gibbs 2.0 is the highlight of the last 20 years. I get fired up when people call it a failure. 2005 & 2007 were amazing.

No contest. In over 50 years as a fan, and as yuck as it was losing a SB to the Dolphins by a TD and making their "perfect year" final (which would turn out to be such a douchey every-year celebration), nothing beats the pain and disappointment of that SB blow out and humiliation at the hands of the ****ing raiders after such a stellar season. I commiserate, too, however, with many of other painful moments chose, and Fat Al may be one of the most anger-instilling events, but that SB loss, and in that manner, was the greatest disappointment.

Ah right. Thats what I meant.

Of course, now that I think about it 2006 in its entirety was a huge dissappointment. I was probably just merging them together.

had they gone to the playoffs in 1979, that may have changed things down the road so JG1 era never happens though. the SB blowout takes it for me.

Remember when our defensive end broke the all time sack record?

Too many to rank effectively but one that hasn't been mentioned is the announcement of the stadium name change to fedex field. I knew at that moment that the ship was steered by a guy willing to sell out history and tradition for cash (at least at that particular time)

Yes but it so happens that week 15 of 2006 was one of the bright spots of that year, our win in NO.
