The only negative of him making that kick was seeing Danny freaking Smith bumbling around celebrating afterwards. I really, really don't think he should be celebrating anything, considering we just dropped his boy Billy Cundiff for sucking butt.

Eli Manning will be 31 years old when the 2012 season starts.Michael Vick will be 32 years old when the 2012 season starts.Tony Romo will be 32 years old when the 2012 season starts.ROBERT GRIFFIN III will be 22 years old when the 2012 season starts.
Cobra Kai looked good.
Let's remember we all thought Cundiff looked good in week one though.
I am cautiously optimistic.
The press asked a Redskins executive about the salary cap penalty and the executive responded, "Ask John Mara." So the press asked Mara and he said, “What they did was in violation of the spirit of the salary cap. "
Oh I see now, even though there was no actual salary cap in 2010 according to the CBA, the "spirit" of the salary cap still existed. Thanks for clearing that up Mara.
Good nugget. I did not know that. I am okay with 50% touchbacks. In years past our kickoff coverage wass typically pretty good, so I am okay with it. Next year, if we get a punter that is willing to try kickoffs as well, heck, why not. If the punter gets injured kicking off, I think RGIII has experience punting :P
Danny Smith was hugging Mike a few times during the game. It's confusing, but I think they are pretty good friends.
This is why I am excited for Kai after that kick. Early in the 2nd quarter we had a 4th and 3 on the MIN 35 yardline...which would have been a 52 yard field goal. This was after the Vikings were already up 9-0, and any points we could get were important. Instead of going for the field goal, we converted the 4th down. I read that as the coaching staff didn't want Kai's first field goal to be that long, they would prefer to give him shorter boots to build his confidence up throughout the game.
After converting that field goal, the drive stalled from a few penalties and we ended up kicking a 50 yard field goal from the MIN 32. We had no choice there, 4th and 13, so we had to take the field goal. It was a pressure situation. Loved it.

I went through each kickoff for both teams, note that when it says 65 yards and touchback, that is the ball going through the endzone. It actually takes 75 yards to clear the end zone. 7 of Walsh's 8 kicks were through the end zone, with just one of them coming up 1 yard short.
Alternatively, Harvin was able to return 3 of Forbath's 7 kicks. He probably could have returned 1 or 2 more if he didn't fumble them. On these returns, Minnesota's average start was the 33 yardline. That's actually a big deal.
K.Forbath kicks 65 yards from WAS 35 to end zone, Touchback.
K.Forbath kicks 63 yards from WAS 35 to MIN 2. P.Harvin to MIN 36 for 34 yards (R.Jackson, D.Young).
K.Forbath kicks 67 yards from WAS 35 to MIN -2. P.Harvin, Touchback.
K.Forbath kicks 63 yards from WAS 35 to MIN 2. P.Harvin to MIN 23 for 21 yards (K.Robinson).
K.Forbath kicks 71 yards from WAS 35 to MIN -6. P.Harvin to MIN 39 for 45 yards (C.Wilson).
K.Forbath kicks 65 yards from WAS 35 to end zone, Touchback.
K.Forbath kicks 64 yards from WAS 35 to MIN 1. P.Harvin, Touchback.
B.Walsh kicks 65 yards from MIN 35 to end zone, Touchback.
B.Walsh kicks 74 yards from MIN 35 to WAS -9. B.Banks, Touchback.
B.Walsh kicks 65 yards from MIN 35 to end zone, Touchback.

Blair Walsh was CRUSHING the ball yesterday. I think half of his kickoffs ended up in the stands... thats about 85 yards.

the 50 yarder had plenty of leg.....one week of practice, never playing in an NFL game and your first kick is a 50 yarder and you nail it...huge! That spun the momentum for us big time. I think we miss that kick the Vikings come down and score and go up big. Well done Kai!
To be fair, Harvin is one of the better kickoff return guys in the league so all in all I think between Kai and the cover teams, they did a decent job.
Redskins 2013 Opponents:
Home- Dallas, NY Giants, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, Kansas City, San Diego
Away- Dallas, NY Giants, Philadelphia, Green Bay, Minnesota, Atlanta, Denver, Oakland
So Cundiff booms kickoffs out of the endzone but can't get close on a 50 yd FG and the Cobra booms FG's that would have been good from 60 yds but can't get it to the endzone on kickoffs....makes sense to me.
It's completely different. It's like comparing firing a handgun at 10 yards compared to a sniper at 100 yards. If you can hit it with the sniper, you should be able to hit it with a handgun, right?
The ball is placed at a different angle and height, as well as the running start they get for kickoffs. I agree it is odd, but I think it's more complicated than how you compare the two. At least, that's what I will tell myself.
We may want to keep our eye on this kid from the other side of my state

I had a dream last night that RG3 scored the game winning TD in the Super Bowl, and Billy Cundiff made the extra point. After he made it he looked in the "dream camera" and winked and gave a thumbs up.
